my wife is a us citizen, she came to my country and we get married,right now our visa case is under NVC processing. we already paid fees and collecting financial and otehr documents. we didnt obtain marital status certificate before we get married, cause it dose not required in my country to get married, but when i was going to attached my marriage certificate from the ministry of foreign affairs they ask for both of our marital status certificate . what is the procedure to obtain a marital status certificate after get married, if i get a this status now,is that gonna harm our ongoing case? we both are very anxious about the situation. NVC requests a photocopy of your marriage certificate. This proves that you are married.

If either you or your wife was previously married, you will also send proof that the marriage(s) was terminated: photocopy of the death certificate or final divorce decree.

Otherwise, you do not need to obtain certification that, before you were married, you were single.

Thank you so much for the quick replay. But i didnt get my answer as i asked how to obtain marital status certificate after u get married. Its said that the original civil documents you submit to the U.S. Embassy or Consulate must be issued by an appropriate authority, and the appropriate authority is ministry of foreign affairs, who ask me to submit both of our marital (single) status certificate which we didnt obtain before marriage. without this status they not gonna certified our marital documents. My question is how to obtain and procedure of getting marital status certificate. we need the authorized marital document before we send it to nvc cause my wife is filing a joint tax return which required our marriage certificate issued by appropriate authority. i hope i succeed to explain the situation. thank you again

I am not sure what a "Marital Status Certificate" is and never heard of this document as a requirement in my limited knowledge. If both of you are married for the first time, all you will need is your marriage certificate and Nikahnama. Both can be translated in English by the same authorities who issues the original one in Bengali. When you are going to send it to NVC you send a photocopy and even that doesn't have to be attested by anyone because you will need to bring/submit the orginals for interview. What he hear that docs needs to be attested by foreign ministry is just not required unless specifically instructed. The marriage registry office is the legal, official authority accepted by te embassy in Dhaka.
