The following is copy and pasted from my original post in the April 2015 filers, I might get more responses starting a thread about it here, I hope.

So yesterday (Feb.23) I called USCIS since I have not heard anything about my Oath yet. It has only been 2 weeks since the interview (over 10 months since NOA) and I was recommended for approval, but my rush on this is my oldest child will soon age out, end of March he will be 18, so if this keeps taking so long he will not derive citizenship through me. I received a notice today (Feb.24) in regards to my expedite request and it said my case is now under expedited review and I should hear something about my N400 within 45 days from the date of the letter :bonk: I am so confused, not sure if that means my request was approved, or if I have to up to 45 days to be told if it was approved or denied. Can't understand why it would take 45 days for a response since the request was made on behalf of my son aging out in less then 45 days. I'm just frustrated and needed to vent. Hopefully anyone with experience in this can chime in and offer some knowledge.

I am lost for words at this time and unsure what to do, the whole 45 days really worries me. Does anyone have or had any experience with this?

hi

no, it means they stated that they have 45 days to review the case

there is nothing really to expedite, it all depends on when the next oath ceremony is available, they really don't care about your child turning 18, you will have your ceremony when there is one available, and that depends on the city and state where you live

hopefully it will be before your child turns 18

USCIS does, actually take personal circumstances into consideration. They have, under special circumstances, added people to a "full" ceremony or, earlier in the process, they have moved up interview dates and sped up approvals. However, there are two things to consider:

1) Everyone's request for an expedited process has to be treated the same. The person making the decision doesn't know why you want to expedite until he reads your request, and your request has to wait in line behind other expedite requests. They aren't going to approve a request before the request is processed when its turn comes.

2) The request has to be justifiable. Approved requests that I've seen have included an applicant with cancer and an applicant with a dying parent. Wanting to expedite before a child turns 18 is a valid request, but won't be high up on USCIS's approval list because the child can file an N400 when eligible. The most common request seems to be so that the applicant can apply for a federal job before a deadline... that doesn't seem to have a high approval rate either.

Usually, what happens when you explain he situation to your interviewer is that he tries to schedule you for the next oath if registration for that ceremony is open. If he can't do this, then all he can do is initiate an expedite request. So it's good to ask at the interview, but if doesn't happen right away, it's probably not going to happen.

I have not heard about expedites for naturalisation, obviously it could be done.

Well that is not true, was there not a story about somebody on their death bed?

“If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.”

Thank you Jimmyhou for the detailed response. I guess I just hope and pray I have it within the next month.

Also, Aleful, I didn't even know the expedite was something applicants could do, the rep I spoke to on the phone had told me about it and did the request for me, so it is obviously something that can be done. But I personally do not have high hopes for it in my case and Jimmy's response pretty much confirmed my doubts. I just got confused with the response I received from USCIS since I was clueless about it.

Anyway, this thread can be deleted I got the response I needed, thank you.
