Do not lie... Medicaid is a Fed/State run program so is USCIS... what will you say is your reason for being in the US.... and what your immigrattion status is.... it will ask you on the forms... will you have to lie again....

Kez

Actually it doesnt ask you that on the form. I have it with me, they gave it to me at the hospital. Basically its a Declaration of support form for the person who fills it out. He/she has to state their name, our relationship, address, and how much he/she makes in a month. Then they have to write a letter saying he/she supports me, provide some utility bills, and thats it. But yea, it may still not be a great idea to just say he is a friend who supports me. I'll have to talk to him about it.

I dont mean to be rude but is it a very large bill... did you and your future husband not make any plans for how to pay for things once you got here....

There was a front page headline in my local rag about the difficulty USC's were having getting Medicaid due to tightening of the regulation.

I would be gob smacked if someone on a non immigrant visa qualifies.

“If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.”

I work in a hospital with patient accounts, there is emergency medicaid for non citizens and residents less than 5 years, the criteria is very strict and it also depends what state you live in. Basically it will cover life or limb situations like, L&D, pancreatitis, miscarriage. The criteria you have to be one of the following: parent of a minor, under 18, over 65, pregnant, or be deemed disabled by social security and still have to fall underneath the income scale for medicaid. In our state you have to make less than $350/mo. to qualify as parent of a minor. On the application it does ask if you have a sponsor.

The hospital I work in does offer charity assistance which gives a discount depending on your income. This does not count as public assistance.

Best bet is to talk to someone in patient accounts, most hospitals are willing to work with you as far as programs, or payment arrangements. If you do not reply to them soon, your chances of getting into a program are reduced. Your chances of going into collections are increased.

I have a feeling this may be a State thing, not in my State.

Definitely don't lie (for lots of reasons...) I just read a post on another forum about a non USC who gave birth in the US (while on a tourist visa, or maybe an overstay, not sure....) She somehow got Medicaid to cover it -- don't know if there was a lie involved, but I'm guessing yes. Anyway, she's trying to get an immigrant visa now, and just got denied, plus a 10 year ban, specifically because of having used Medicaid.... I don't know all the details of that case, but it seems wise to err WAY on the side of caution and legality
