I864EZ - How would NVC know if AOS is "original" if USC signs it in black ink?

I have couple of questions about I-864EZ form that I will be submititng in few months to NVC.

#1. Instructions for I-864EZ clearly state to type or print the form in black ink. But I am not sure if USC petitioner types or prints form in black ink, how would NVC know if its the "original" AOS form or a copy?

#2. I-864EZ form has a lot of fields that do not apply to our case, such as interpreter and stuff. Rather than leaving such fields empty, I intend to put "N/A" in those fields. But as you know, the I-864EZ form does not allow special characters such as / for an input in any of the fields. I am planning on asking my USC wife to fill the entire form handwriting it rather than filling it on computer. Wondering if that would be fine? Dont really wanna get checklisted by NVC.

Thanks a lot

Or can I type all the fields that the forms lets me type, and print the form on a printer and hand write the "N/A" in the fileds where I want to put "N/A"? What would people recommend?

You can type it all up and print it out, but you'll need a 'wet' signature to prove it's an original. We types everything up so that we could save the form just in case anything happened in the future, we printed out two copies, kept one for ourselves and signed one that we sent off to USCIS.

As for N/A or leaving it blank, you need to consult the instructions for the form. They'll clearly state which to use if a question doesn't apply to you.

You are reading way too much into this. I understand why you're doing it, because you're afraid of getting a checklist and long delays, but bear in mind that there are hundreds of thousands of people before you who have filled out the i-864/i-864a/i-864ez etc. So far, I haven't heard of anyone filling out the i-864 in handwriting, everyone does it on the computer and have hence faced the same "issues" as you do. Many of the parts on the form will tell you to only fill out if applicable. E.g. part 2.5, it says to fill out the A number (if any), so if you don't have an a-number, you don't fill it out. The same for the interpreter part, if you didn't tick the box to say you used an interpreter, you don't fill this part out. Everyone I know have done it this way without issues, including us. And instead of putting N/A, you can write NA and it's accepted by the form in most cases.

Even when signing with black ink, you can still pretty much tell if it's an original signature or a copied signature. I have heard of one case who got a checklist saying their original signature in black inc was actual a copy, even though it wasn't. They replied to the checklist by signing a new form in blue inc and got case complete.

I was just going by the Saylin's wiki which says not to leave fields empty in AOS form, coz she has heard many people getting check listed becuase of it.

How about if I type the fields that apply to me and put "N/A" by hand writing after I have it printed out? Or would it be better to leave such fields which do not apply to me blank?

I filled the all blanks with N/A when ever possible with the computer and the rest by hand with black ink.

All our signatures were done with blue ink to avoid any doubts.

I did not get any RFEs or Checklists.

There is a question about your address where you can leave it blank if you reside in US, I filled it out again.

REMEMBER, blank ink and all CAPS.
