I-751 February 2016 Filers

But the airline still needs to have proof of a valid visa when I'm checking in at the airport. So yes, I can show them my valid European passport but without a returning flight scheduled, I'm pretty certain they will check my Visa status (which means showing them the expired green card + extension letter).

I'm just panicking a little bit ;)

Wanted to share my recent experience with an airline. I have a Philippine passport and a pending application to remove conditions from my PR status (Feb 2016 filer :D). Facts:

1. PH Passport requires visa to travel to US and Canada

2. US PR status allows travel to Canada

3. Canada requires visa-exempt travelers to apply for eTA before traveling to Canada. eTAs are tied to the passport (which was still in my maiden name)

I recently had to fly to Canada (just last week). Because my eTA was tied to my passport, all my airline tickets were in my maiden name. I traveled with my Marriage Certificate to prove that my identity on my PR card. I had no issues entering Canada. Flying back to the US had a minor hiccup - not with border protection but with the airline. They required that the plane ticket matched my PR card (married name) instead of my passport (maiden name and required visa). Long story short, they had to change my name at the check in counter before I got my boarding pass.

Everyone (airline, Canada and US border) accepted the extension letter + expired green card as proof.

My suggestion:

Bring your passport, marriage certificate, expired green card, and extension letter when you travel. All original copies.

Had the pleasure of using my one year extension letter in conjunction with my expired green card for re-rentry into the states last week after a 3 week European vacation. On a scale of 1 to Panic Attack - it was relatively seamless. Aside from having to bypass the electronic kiosks and actually meet with a consular officer, it was really painless. They viewed my expired card, read the extension letter, stared me up and down and asked some vacation-y questions, took my fingerprints, made a stamped notation into my Canadian passport, and sent me on my way.

I wasn't overly concerned about re-entry but I know others have had some difficulty and wanted to reassure my February peeps that if you are sweating this at all - DON'T. This was the first time I have travelled internationally without my complete immigration file (have travelled out of the States plenty in the last few years but I have always taken the "beast file" with me LOL) and it was a total non-issue.

Happy travelling!

Thanks for sharing your experience and reassuring your February Family :) always positive information.

California service center is still averaging 6 months processing time and I saw that there are some December and a couple of January filers already approved. There are always outliers but I suspect we are looking at August-ish. #staystrong

Agreed...I have been checking the processing times for CSC on a sporadic basis...now it seems to be 6 months...a couple of weeks ago it kept changing from 6 months to some date in Oct 2015....lets not forget that based on the ongoing refuge crisis (and the god awful political scene from what I have heard) folks at uscis have to probably prioritize their objectives...
