Nerves are a given. I get nervous going through immigration whatever country I go to. Just try to keep it to yourself and have all your docs within easy reach. Before I reached the counter, I had my passport and plane tickets out of my travel pouch. I dont think I was asked for anything other than those.

Thanks, appreciated. And to everyone else as well. I suddenly realised how naive I am about all of this

still don't understand why so much effort is being spent (or about to be spent) bringing millions of border jumpers and visa cheats 'out of the shadows' and possibly given work permits...the H1B program has a cap of around 65,000, and another 15,000 for people with advanced degrees; the H2b annual cap is also around 60,000....yet 5+MILLION illegals might be given work permits??? Huh??? What does that say about our laws? It seems to say, 'we don't care if you obey them or not...we will reward you!'....sheesh...

Of course the reason is because our dysfunctional legislature cannot create 1) a rational guest worker program (I like the IEEE plan for people graduating from US universities). 2) a way to give status that does not lead to citizenship

I'd love for North America to go to a system like the EU where you can work pretty much anywhere within the continent

Similar situation to the UK

It says to me, the governemt don't know how to deal with the situation properly wihout upsetting people, they are too scared to just 'send em back'

So the answer, give them a right to stay and forever put up with the thousands/millions that will continue to ignore the system

Makes us legal's look a bit silly!

cannot disagree...makes a mockery of visa laws, whether the US's or the UK's....and likely costs the taxpayers in each country a ton of money, which would be better spent on schools or other social programs that benefit those who are paying the taxes...rewarding visa cheats/border jumpers sends a bad message....it says..'we pretend that we have strict laws, but in reality we are too timid to make tough decisions, and the only people who have to spend more time and money negotiating our immigration laws are the most responsible and law abiding of adults'....which makes even less sense.

Personally, I don't care if someone's native country is corrupt or a sewer - that is NOT my responsibility to fix...and if a person cannot obey the laws of my country, I don't want them here taking up space, jobs or benefits....ever. Don't sneak into my country, then whine if some of your paperwork for your bogus marriage is going to take several months to process!! Sorry...you have nothing to say about that....If I were king, I would put an end to waivers of any kind...without exception. Overstayers, if caught, would be inadmissible for 5 years at a minimum; illegal workers ten years plus a repayment of taxes estimated at $5000 for each year working without penalty...don't want to pay? Fine. Stay home. You will not be given a legal means by which to return to my country until the bill is settled. Don't like it? Don't come here. I can easily mow my own grass and do laundry...I don't need your help.

If you want to work in the US, apply for and qualify for a legit work visa.

Next on the agenda would be ridding the US of the 11,000,000 lowlife illegals who are currently here....people say we can't deport everyone? Just watch. We've put men on the moon and sent satellites to distant planets; rounding up and shipping home a bunch of irresponsible illegals would be a piece of cake by comparison.

Bottom line: follow our rules, welcome to the US; ignore our rules and border, get ready to get 'das boot!'

The thread has drifted from the OP's query. Before we post any more, let's see if she returns.

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).
