Driver License FYI!!!! Florida

Hello All!

When I arrived in country I went to get a Florida DL, and they gave me on for 3 months no problem with my I94 in the passport....

I got my EAD/AP combo and went back to renew, and the guy behind the counter was really really helpful, and was apologetic for having to charge me extra because my license was expired by like 10 days. He did say, that they would have worked with me to get me a license if I had taken in my paperwork showing that I had filed for AOS! The license would only have been good for a year, but at least that would keep me on the road.

So really just an FYI. I know not all states will do this, and that possibly even not all counties will, but its always worth an hour of your time waiting in line to ask. Who knows, it could sort you all out. He could only give me a sheet of paper this time because my EAD hadn't come onto their system yet, but it counts as a full license.

Good luck to everyone in the process.

Alex

You sure you got a temporary licence and not a learners permit?

If so you got lucky

Most UK Forida residents had to take the sight, written and driving test

Lol

How did you get a DL without taking a test?

UK licences are not transferable

u cant get a dl without do the data test online first (4 hours) and then give AT LEAST the signs test to get the permit. At least in florida i don't know about other states

Highlight of the text:

The Class E written and driving exams are reciprocated if the applicant presents a driver license from any one of the following:

- Canada*
- France

I am in Tennessee, i went in shortly after i arrived in the USA on my K1. Got a temp learners after doing the computer test. I booked a driving skills test and in the meantime got my SS card, after passing my driving skills test i got a Temporary Full Licence for 8 years. I have a full Australian licence so i wasn't concerned too much about the tests , only really wanted the licence for ID purposes. :). Also both our teenage sons (Australian citz on K2) were able to get their learners permits without a SS card. Just needed passports, i 94 and the paperwork from the school about grades and attendance.
