Maybe so. But I think the question would be if a person wanted to kill themselves, would they if there wasn't a gun in the house. Gun owners say yes. Just like they say a massacre would still go down if guns weren't involved. And yet guns are the number one thing used in massacres...

I carry a gun because a cop is too heavy.

If that's true, why are guns used in a majority of massacres?

this is dumb - effectiveness? now guns aren't effective? doesn't availability come into play when discussing effectiveness?

guns = easy, they're everywhere!

bombs = bit more planning/longer shopping list

planes = bit more planning/bit more skill/much longer timeline (due to planning)

a suicidal person with no access to a gun has a longer life expectancy than a suicidal person with access to a gun. it's pretty simple. anyone who says otherwise is kidding themselves.

That's my point. With a gun, it's literally point and spray. Everything else requires way more skill, money, time, and planning.

i'm so confused with what happened in san bernardino, i mean why did the killers choose guns over airplanes or a car? guns aren't as effective in mass killings - but the guns worked just fine and the bombs were duds. this all just defies logic! and this logic compounded with curve balls like japan = no guns but also japan = suicide ~70/day. could it be japans cultural attitude towards suicide? could it be that people who want to die will find a way to do it so guns should be everywhere since they're obviously not a/the problem in any capacity????

Considering the amount of stress they deal with on a daily basis, I'm surprised the suicide rate isn't' higher than that.

Jumping off a building or in front of a car is easy. So is oding

Nope. You know why? You have to climb to do that. Both gives you way more time to think about your decision. ODing wouldn't be instantaneous as well. Blowing your brains out takes less than a second and death comes rather quickly after that.

isn't that up to the individual? all three of those options are survivable. not that folks don't attempt to blow their brains out and screw it up all the time..

Getting a gun requires a waiting period, money to purchase, and some knowledge of how to work it. These are all larger hurdles than "climbing"

Toddlers can work guns. We hear about it more often than not. With 300 million guns out here, you don't even have to go through official channels. And I guarantee you everyone on the mainland knows someone who has a gun in their possession, getting one is the least of your problems.

In order to die from a fall, you have to climb a considerable height. People do it, but I'm betting suicide by gun is more than suicide by jumping. If someone has the numbers, let me know.

^^^^ this is what you do. toddlers do what "more often than not" ??? Are you saying that more toddlers than not can "work" guns??? More toddlers die of gunfire than other toddlers?

He said "jumping off a building" and you turned it into something that fits your point of view. I can think of several ways to jump off a building that requires little to no effort.

And I think you're right, there probably are more suicides by gun but again, not the point.
