Hey guys, I have not posted on here for many many months. I finally decided to do it. I have applied for AOS at the beginning of this year. I received my work permit a while ago and have been working ever since. A couple of months ago I received an RFE....I still have not sent it in because life has been hectic and I have been working a ton. I have time until the end of January to mail it to them. Anyway, the RFE asked for a marriage certificate...but I did send that in with the packet...I definitely 10000 % did. That document said "marriage license" but underneath it did say that me and my husband were married, all signatures, stamp, everything else. We live in IL, so any IL people had the same situation? I had my husband call the courthouse today and they told him that the marriage license is marriage license and marriage certificate in one. And that is exactly what I sent in....so i am not sure what i am supposed to do....

other thing is, about a month ago I received a phone call from a man with a very strong accent who could not even speak English all that well. He claimed that he was calling from immigration and asked me if I was Anna....and that is not even my first name....My first name is Katarzyna...He had me confirm it but I swear he was asking for Anna....then he asked me if I had received the letter regarding the green card application...it was just so weird because he sounded so foreign and I thought it was some kinda scam. It is like he knew my case but he didn't at the same time because he had me say things as if he was verifying some information...idk it was just weird but i went with it and he asked if i will send in the document they need and he made me say it was the marriage certificate....i told him that i will but that i did include that in my packet. he said he has it in front of him and does not see any marriage certificate...i asked him if if i ever have any questions if i can call the number he is calling me from and he told me that this would not work because that's a government line....

do they actually call people? what is going on? what should i do? please help guys, this is very important and my future can depend on it.

Did you send a copy of the marriage certificate obtained from the courthouse? That is what they expect to see. Also, it's possible that your document got lost or misplaced.

The best thing is to send another copy of the courthouse document. Then the processing can continue. Now it is on hold until you respond to the RFE.

No reason to wait until the last minute where there could be a problem and have the Adjustment of Status petition considered abandoned.

I am from IL too and the courthouse issues you a certified marriage certificate if you go and ask, it has a raised seal on it and costs

about $13 and any more are around $8.50. Get it and submit it. Yes, there have been several instances where USCIS will call you

in regards to an RFE. They don't want the license combo you send them.

I'm from IL as well and I purchased my marriage certificate from the local currency exchange (I didn't have time to go downtown). It took about 7 days to get it.

This certificate IS acceptable, correct? This copy I bought doesn't have a raised seal.

Sorry, I have no idea about 'purchasing a marriage certificate from the local currency exchange'.

Being able to purchase it from a currency exchange is listed as one of five ways to purchase a certified copy of an IL marriage certificate.

But I don't know anyone on here that's done that, I was wondering if anyone had an issue with it. I don't think there would be, but I'm paranoid of the little details.

that's what i thought i was getting from them....cuz i asked for that and they gave me two certified copies....

anyway....it sucks that i cannot find out whether that document i sent them was not in the packet at all or whether it was not the document they wanted....called the hotline and they were not able to tell me that. she said i can make an info pass appointment and find out that way but the closest location for that appointment is freaking 6 hours away. so idk what to do. my husband did call the courthouse and they told him that the "combo" pink'ish document is the certificate....

All I know is I went to the courthouse and got several certified copies and

USCIS accepted the certified copy, it is blue.

Maybe he needs to speak to a supervisor or go in person to the courthouse.
