NVC K1 case number for immigrant visa?

I called NVC today and got my case number, I wanted to check online and it appears to be an immigrant case number starting with 3 letters (not AA). I thought k1 is not immigrant visa, is my case number wrong then?

no they put K1s in the immigrant visa category since it is technically so but once the visa is issued they will change it to nonimmigrant.

just to be clear.. continue the nonimmigrant visa steps.. ds160 etc.. using the case number the nvc provided you.. Good luck!

yes this is correct, use the immigrant visa option from the drop down menu for the time being. after you file the DS-160 i believe you get the AA number which you then use when you select Non-Immigrant Visa from the drop down menu. in addition, after your interview and approval they eventually merge the two numbers and you can track the progress of Visa processing on their end. i was able to use both alphanumeric numbers (AA number and number given from the NVC) to see my visa through the stages of 'administrative processing' and 'issued'. also, my fiancee got a 'passport number' and 'airway bill number' which i was able to use to track her passport when it was being mailed to her. i just googled 'passport tracking japan' (you'll enter your country in instead) and you can enter the passport number in the search bar and it'll give you a status. you can then scroll down a bit and it gives a description of the status that was displayed. hope this helps good luck!

edit: when you google search for passport tracking the site you are looking for is going to be a ustraveldocs site.

K1 is a non immigrant but changes to immigrant in the end so it's confusing anytime you need to contact Casablanca about your k1 petition you will be contacting immigrant visa department not non immigrant .
