My fiance had his interview Tuesday, in Lebanon, they told him he was missing the tax papers of our co-sponsor. So he took copies of her w2s to the embassy today and they told him this is the wrong paper. Has anyone had this problem before or do you know what papers they are talking about? I've emailed the embassy but I've only gotten the generic here is our FAQs. Can anyone help please.

You can either provide:

(1) IRS tax transcripts obtained from here: https://www.irs.gov/Individuals/Get-Transcript

OR

I recommend your co-sponsor request tax transcripts, because it contain all information that was submitted to the IRS. The problem with using the actual tax document (besides the 1040 form) is that you need all the back up documents that's was submitted to the IRS. It's not just the W2.

What do you mean by "back-up documents"?

I sent in my a co-sponsor's: W2, a copy of the 1040, a tax transcript for that same year and a copy of his passport.

Just wondering....

Either:

1. A copy of the entire tax return, which includes all schedules, W2's, etc.

or

2. The free IRS Tax Transcript

Someone is not understanding clearly.

What exactly does the paper that he was given after the interview say?

A tax return transcript is obtained from the IRS, it is an "all in one" format that covers all the supporting information (W2,1099, tax form, supporting schedules, etc.)

If the consular officer is doubting that the tax return was actually filed they may be wanting to see the transcript issued by the IRS. Typically they prefer the transcript but will accept copies of the W2's, 1099's, tax return & supporting schedules.

The IRS Tax Transcripts are the best. They are the official "receipt" of the tax return by the IRS. They are also free.
