Due to certain circumstances, my fiancee is leaving her family in Iloilo and she is staying with a friend. I have posted a few concerns about this before but now she is going to be there for X-months because not even have NOA2 yet. With all the dangers to woman there, people jumping into cabs and working with the drivers to rob people, people still rings off your fingers, what information can I provide to her to help her stay safe? Just stay locked up in doors? Is ti really worse off there than other places in Philippines?

Or just tell me to relax and not as bad as fresh posts of other peoples experiences there are.

Still can not understand why i can not edit topic title and a post.....

Anyway, title should have been "Fiancee Moving to Manila Temporarily."

Along with that, another question: How do we deal with an address change for the VISA since 129-F was mailed in October? Does it need to be done?

I'd wager your fiancée has a pretty good handle on what crime is like already so she should just continue doing what she probably is already doing to ensure her personal safety.

IMHO, yes, don't wear rings of ANY sort as even cheap gold colored ones can be mistaken for expensive jewelry. Same goes with necklaces and earrings. Taking a taxi? Text the cab company name, vehicle license plate, and car number (if available) along with the phone number on the taxi to a family member or friend prior to getting into the cab. Tell the driver to lock all doors and don't get in if they're unwilling.

Pay attention to her surroundings and who's around her at all times. Don't go to areas she's unfamiliar with.

Crime is crime pretty all over the world. If she's not familiar with the city she moved on to from Iloilo, then only travel with a friend or family member.

I've traveled to Mindanao many, many times and simply practice good, common sense habits. Good luck.

** Saw your edit...Manila...metropolitan area...crime more pervasive, tell her just be more careful than she would in the hinterlands.

I think you are over reacting. Most Filipino's know what to expect. Iloilo is no small town and she has friends. If she is concerned have her talk with the person she is staying with. I think your question is more for you then for her. Just my opinion.

I let my wife carry the money and she tells me what to do. She is well versed in scams as they all grow up hearing tales from friends, family and relatives.

Torete has given you some excellent advice. The one I think is foremost is use common sense.

I agree with everyone. I've been to Manila four times (stayed there for the duration of two of my four visits). I have Cerebral Palsy (two canes and very slow!) and Joan did not know Manila. We were "easy targets" and never had any problem at all. No jewelry, eyes open and aware of the surroundings and she will be fine.

Mahalo/Salamat!

So I fill out that form for her change from one Philippines address (which was supposed to be where she would stay) to the other (where she is now)?

And originally she finally quit that job in Singapore, so that was the "work" address and her family's home was the "mailing" address, until last week to where she is now.

I thought she would have to mail a form or something.

She can change her mailing address at the releasing window right after her embassy interview. I'm not sure if she would want to do it before then since she seems to have itchy feet.

Also, she already knows how to take care of herself in Maynila.

as to address change?

no one cares until the DS-160 is filed. keep that in mind ...

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !

Thanks for the info, all. I would have factored her address has to be updated knowing that once I get NOA2, she be getting stuff in mail as well for medical, interviews, or whatever they think she has to do. Right?
