Hi everyone,

My question is regarding tax returns. I had initially filed my tax returns 2 years ago but it was redone because my Dad claimed me as a dependent. When filling the sponsorship form regarding year 2013, do I fill in the amount I made that year or do I say I was a dependent of my father. Someone help!!! Thank you!

Hi everyone,

I'd like to use my dad as our joint sponsor but he may have not filed the previous year's tax return when it's time to fill out the sponsorship form. Will this be an issue?

Thank you!!

You have to complete a I-864 and supporting evidence and so does your joint sponsor.

Both need to have filed 2014, 2013, 2012 tax returns or give explanation why you weren't required.

What your joint sponsor makes in a year should be over $12,000. make sure non of the years is below 12,000.

That's no where near the poverty guidelines

Hi everyone, I hope someone can help me out.

I filed tax returns for 2014 but my taxes were redone because my dad claimed me as a dependent. Do I input the income I made that year and attach my initial tax returns or had that been nullified since my taxes were redone? Thanks!

On the I-864 they are asking for your income so whatever is your Adjusted gross(if you used 10ez) or your total income (1040) you put. Has nothing to do with your dads return.

If you didn't complete a return because you were claimed as a dependent I'm not exactly sure how you state that.

Hi everyone,

I meet the income requirements but I'm using my Dad as a joint sponsor. I need to find out if I should use the I864EZ.

What do you advice?

Thanks.

hi

you can't use the i864 because you will have a joint sponsor, the i864ez would be if you were the only sponsor

so you will fill out an i864 as the petitioner, and your dad will fill out another i864 as your joint sponsor

This has been debated before. It is my opinion that it is clear that whether there is a joint sponsor does not affect the petitioner's ability to use I-864EZ. Some other people have other opinions. Anyway, you can always use I-864 even if you can use I-864EZ. If your income is enough, why does the immigrant need a joint sponsor?

A person using a joint sponsor will not qualify with their own income which is the key factor in why they cannot use the I-864EZ. However, I see why you read it the way you do.

However I agree with you on the second point; if someone qualifies as a sponsor, why is a joint sponsor being supplied?

Well I'm not sure I do meet the requirements because I hear you have to add 5000 for an additional person. So we're going to be a household of 2 and my income it $29k. Do I qualify to be a sole sponsor? Thank you everyone
