Proof of Having Met In Person

I am compiling passport stamps, boarding passes, photographs and am realizing that I have quite a bit of paper here. Has anyone created like an appendix and then subsequently numbered each of the documents that you are using for this section? I have approximately 2 pages of passport stamps (some look better than others), 28 pages of itineraries/boarding passes, and a zip lock bag with 5 photos included. Would it be easier to create an appendix of all of these documents to include (paper-clipping to all the documents together with the appendices) or would that be frowned upon?

Any help would be so greatly appreciated.

That's true, but there is always the risk that the person inspecting your application doesn't like the particular bit of evidence you provide (eg can't read the passport stamp). In my case I provided copies of my passport stamps, boarding passes and photos of us together (we had one of us at an attraction, with the attraction branding and date on it), and we also provided details of my wifes visit to the UK to see me. Better to have too much proof than insufficient.

I suspect if you are in Canada they aren't going to probe the evidence you supply as critically as they might for people who live much farther away.

Don't bother sending all that paperwork. They just need proof of meeting within two years, not proof of your whole relationship.

All we sent for "proof of meeting" were two or three plane ticket stubs. I think only two, out of 8 total visits. We did include pictures of us together (only two pictures), but that's secondary evidence.


A lot of people front load their petitions because it'll be the first thing (or one of the first things) seen at the interview. Canada doesn't hammer to hard on bona fide relationship from what I can see unless you have some kind of crazy red flag.

With that said, chances are USCIS is going to just look at one or two pieces of what you send them and then just consider "proof of meeting" as met, and ignore the rest. 58 pages of proof of meeting is a bit extreme.

Maybe not for the initial approval of the petition, but I'd think you would get extra credit at the embassy stage. Prob not a big deal in a low fraud country like Canada, but I'd still send evidence that shows several trips if I had it.

OP, what we did was put a divider page at the end labeled 'proof of meeting in person'. In red pen, my fiancee wrote short descriptions at the top of each page, ex: "Boarding passes from (petitioner)'s visit to (benefifiary)'s family for Christmas 2014", or "hotel room receipt from joint holiday in Las Vegas", etc, and circled relevant information to help the adudicator to quickly find what we wanted them to look at.

I used paper clips and binder clips and had a cover letter which outlined all the attachments

You could do the same, list all the different evidences for the meeting in person and clip them all together in one sub-packet.

And the basis of my initial response, based on we're talking Canada here. Also proof of multiple visits goes a tad way toward evidence of legitimate relationship, but in and of itself is meaningless. Just means you visited alot; doesn't describe the relationship or what they talked about or planned for.

Send as much information as it takes too make you feel comfortable. I sent them a notarized letter with both our signatures stamped, our Son's birth certificate (he's only a 1 y.o) and they still asked for proof we met in person...you may get someone who overlooks things...make sure he doesnt
