K1 Visa Beneficiaries, meeting up once in USA

Hey Folks,

I just got my NOA2 and I'm excited to move to the next part of the process. I was wondering, do any of the beneficiaries (and maybe with their new spouses) meet up with fellow beneficiaries (VJers) after they move to the USA?

I'm just thinking that once we've finally made it to the USA, we won't know anyone most likely aside from our fiance's and it might be nice to meet up in person with people who understand the complex and stressful process we are going through as well as getting accustomed to living in the USA. I was thinking about when I move to California to join my man that I won't know anyone BUT him, and I'm fortunate that since I'm coming from Canada it's not too much of a culture shock and I know the local language, but I would image for those coming from farther a field it would be very isolating.

Are there any forums, apps, websites that help facilitate these types of meetings? Is this someone people would be interested in doing or have already done?

I'd like to hear people's thoughts on this.

Obviously this would more germane to different languages or cultures.

Many folks find others by using the Regional Forums here on VJ.

I know that my wife helped out a fellow VJer's son with a police certfiicate and then actually met his mother, before immigrating to the US, who had come to the US on a K-1.

Then we met, via VJ, a couple whose fiance had her K-1 interview on the same day as my wife, so the two ladies (both with children) met in the line to the Moscow Embassy.

We live near Chicago and they were to live in St. Louis but the flights to Chicago from Moscow were a better deal. So both ladies and children took the same flight, our families became good friends and we still are to this day, with frequent visits during the year.

My wife has since met many friends in our area who also speak Russian. One was while she was at the playground with the child, another was through the local Mothers Club, another was a friend of a friend.

So the best bet is to get out of the house and explore....and don't be afraid to strike up a conversation.
