While I was preparing my application N-400 to apply I noticed about Selective Services which was the first time to hear of it.

What should I do?

Now im already over 26 and I have been in the US more than 5 years.

There's very little you can do.

You were supposed to register with Selective Service when you first got your Green Card. This would have been included in the welcome letter, and emphasized many times even before then.

Indeed, even undocumented (illegal) aliens are required to register with Selective Service.

From the manual: “an applicant who refused to or knowingly and willfully failed to register for Selective Service negates his disposition to the good order and happiness of the United States, attachment to the principles of the Constitution, good moral character, and willingness to bear arms on behalf of the United States. “

In all honesty, it may be better waiting for a full 5 years since your 26th birthday so that when filing, you can show "good moral character" for the past 5 years. Aka, wait until you are 31 years old, then file since your failure to register will be outside the statutory period.

If, however, you wish to continue, I would submit the following -- but be very careful:

1. Status Information Letter from Selective Service
   A Status Information Letter from the Selective Service states that you are over-age and therefore no longer required to register. USCIS will refuse to consider your situation without this letter.
2. Sworn Declaration from Applicant
   This signed statement explains why you did not avoid the Selective Service and why the nature is innocent.
3. ANY supporting documentation that you have which shows how you did not willfully and with full knowledge of the situation avoid registering for Selective Service.

In summary: to be safe, wait until you're 31 before applying for citizenship (or in the case of citizenship based on an active and true marriage to a USC, 29). Else, proceed with caution using the above information.

If you immigrated through Adjustment of Status, you may already be registered as on the I-485 you gave them permission to register you.

As stated above, if you obtained your green card prior to turning 26 then you may have been automatically registered by USCIS.
