Thanks to the VJ members, my fiancee visa has been approved, issued, and ready to be pick up on Wednesday. The 9 months of waiting was pretty bad- up to the point i wanted to quit my job and just move over there. Now another obstacle needs to be conquer. My fiancee doesn't speak one word of English and she never travel beyond the boarders of her country and coming to America on a plane by herself is a bit scary and taunting she says and i agree one hundred percent. Now the question is would the airline help her get to her gates even though she not in a need of a wheelchair or an elderly person? I just don't want her to get lost in airport.

Thanks

Yai

When you buy a ticked for her, you can also order an attendant to guide her around the airport (s) in case she needs a layover. This additional service is provided by all companies.

Be sure she has her itinerary printed out and easily accessible. If she has to change planes perhaps she can make a friend on the flight who can help her.

Also make a sheet for her (in both languages) so that she can point to a sentence if she needs help with connections and so on. (why not include some of the mundane things like restroom, food, etc. too)

Request help from the airline when you book the ticket.

If she's changing planes in the US why don't you fly to where she's making the POE and travel the rest of the way together?

Congratulations!!!

You've been supplied with great ideas from the above posters. I don't have too much to add except if you do make a "mini dictionary" you might want to add a simple symbol/picture or two next to the ones that are important so all she'd have to do is point. This will be such a nervous and exciting time. Congratulations again!

Thanks guys for the help and i think I'll meet her at her POE which is ATL and just fly back together to Florida.

Also i was wondering would they have a translator during her little interview at her POE?

If they have some issues and need her to answer complicated questions, they might get an interpreter. It is frequently done over the phone.

But so often they simply check the papers and let the person go without saying much.

Hard time about what exactly? Korean Air was some of the best service I ever got. So nice. Tell her to follow the Korean americans and follow the crowd at chow time. Then she'll need help to meet you at the gate maybe for her connection in the states to meet you at that gate or hopefully she can call u after customs.

Hard time getting clearance to board the plane with a one way ticket. I don't question their hospitality(one of the best i agree) but maybe the lack of knowledge involving her visa that doesn't require onward travel.
