package sent to husband in nigeria but nigeria customs wont give him package

I mailed my husband a package from the usps priority mail...i put down if package can't be delivered to return it back to me....my husband went to nigeria customise to pick up package....nigeria customise refused to give him the package and told him if he wants the package he would have to pay $2000 usd...he told them to send the package back to me and they are saying there keeping the package...i sent my husband jewlery that is costume jewlery but nigeria customise are saying 3 pieces are real gold....how do i go about getting the package back...need help asap

You will have to take it up with usps since it has nothing to do with immigration.

On a side note : I think you should have done more research on custom duties before dispatching such an item. Go to your local usps office and discuss with a supervisor. They can get EMS to send the package back and you pay the associated cost. Good luck

Same thing any where in the world, if you write the value of the item on the package... then the import duties will be high. Even in England here if your goods is expensive you pay more customs duties.

Sorry that package is gone. Never use USPS for valuables. Sorry customs will take, dismiss never deliver. Thats why their mailing system is so bad and so corrupt. Sorry.

Yep, someone else will walk around with the jewelry. If it was insured then contact your post office on how to get a reimbursement.

We also had a "lost" read stolen package and had it insured and were reimbursed after about 4 months back and forth with USPS.

Not true in every case. I had an expensive camera returned to me and I did not have to pay a dime. I just make several calls and sent several emails to the right people. If you act fast this can be resolved.

I also sent my husband a package that they asked him to pay customs fee, but on the internet the item had cleared customs. My husband was very upset about this. I told him to leave the post office and calm down and return on tomorrow . I told him to pay the 7000 Naira that they were asking and let me handle the rest from this side. I pray that they give it to him. The box only has more phone records and a nice shirt that I wanted him to wear with the outfit I had chosen for him on my last visit. I told him ,no Wahala, we do not stress over such simple things. Jehovah has the final say!!! Pay the fee and let it go. If they need the money that bad.
