Well after waiting for a month, I received an email from NVC... Ofcourse. A Checklist ?

"INSTRUCTIONS FOR: (NAME OF MY WIFE: BENEFICIARY)

__F - FINANCIAL EVIDENCE:______________________________________ We reviewed the Affidavit of Support documentation you sent to the National Visa Center (NVC). According to the current poverty guidelines, it does not appear you or any of your sponsors meet the minimum income requirement to sponsor the intending immigrant(s) for this petition. To avoid delays, you may have an additional sponsor complete an Affidavit of Support (Form I-864) and provide it to the intending immigrant to submit at their interview. At that time, a consular officer will make a decision regarding this requirement. To view the current poverty guidelines, go to http://www.uscis.gov...rm/I-864P.pdf."

Sigh. I don't understand, I know I didn't need to have a co-sponsor since I have provided assets (bank account statement) to meet the poverty guidelines. I mean I'm only like 50 bucks off from the poverty line and more than enough money on my savings account. Sigh.

By the way I'm only sponsoring my wife, but because I have claimed dependents on my last year's tax return, I have to include them in the household count. And eventhough they all accounted for, I still think I don't need a co sponsor because the difference isn't that much (50$)

Anyway. Am I going to get another email/mail from NVC for the next instructions (the interview schedule)? As I understood My wife just have to bring the additional requirement to the interview, I don't have to send them to NVC, correct?

Thank you.

honestly, you should get the answer from the source. Ask them if you can simply bring it to the interview. I think it can depend so you should ask NVC. Also, do you have a job with income? Maybe they don't like that you don't have a constant income. Is it hard for you to find a joint sponsor?

Yes ofcourse I have a job ? Ive been on my current job since January of 2014. I can get a joint sponsor rather easily. That time when I was working on my Affidavit of Support, I have thought of a joint sponsor (mom/brother) but then I figured I didn't need one. I should've just went through with it .

Yes I will call NVC and ask them about it. I just thought maybe everyone here also can share their thoughts.

Thank you.

Question: NVC computes the Povery line based on last year's income, correct? not on the current annual income?

Since you're using assets to meet the poverty guidelines, they may or may not be accepted. It's at the discretion of the interviewer at the US embassy where your wife will be interviewing, so that's why you got that checklist. You can either fix a joint sponsor and have your wife bring that person's i-864 to the interview. Or you can take a chance and see what happens at the interview. If the interviewer feels you need a joint sponsor, you'll need to provide a joint sponsor's i-864 to the US embassy before your wife can be issued a visa.

This is a standard boilerplate message they send when the income is below the requirement. You would get the same message if you showed half a million in a savings account. The key part of the message is what I've made bold above. NVC is not making a judgment, just sending a standard message.

Thank you mallafri76. I'm also inclined on taking a stand about what I intially sent to them being I know I'm not required to need a joint sponsor, but I know it wouldnt matter if I insist on it, I mean regardless, if the consular at the embassy asked for another joint sponsor there's nothing I can do. It will not be hard for me to get a co sponsor anyway so to be on the safe side I willl just have it done.

Thank you.

Right, and your spouse should not offer your mother's affidavit unless it's asked for.

If you have dependents in your incometax report they should be include in your household size! So what they are asking u is to find another sponsor that be qualifying to sponsor your wife and their household also! Becarefull with not account the incontax dependents cuz they notice that! About the bank account they care about that what you earn anual be enough to u support the whole family! The saving is just an options. And yes take the affidavit 864 of the new sponsor to the interview cuz they might ask u for that and if u dont have it there it will delay ur visa! For 60 or more days!

I claimed my grandparents as dependents only on my last year's Income Tax. now they are back in the Philippines.

I just realized now that they only care about what I earn now, I just carelessly typed in $30,000 on the expected annual income, figured my bank assets wil cover the difference. Now when I compute my salary, basing it on my employment letter, I could earn freakin 35k$+ and the poverty line is $30,312 (?) Sigh. My stupidity.

Thank you so much for your input.

I was also 50 dollars short and was asked to provide a sponsor. It delayed us a bit in the process, wish I would of submitted it with mine. It was also because I claimed dependants on my taxes.

Some days I keep thinking I shouldn't had claimed any dependents. And the same thing as you, I should of provided a joint sponsor when we're completing our AOS, I was contemplating that time whether to have a joint sponsor or not. I was very confident with my assets covering the difference, I didnt went through it.

I know better now. Thank you for your input.

And I hope everything went well with your case.
