I've been following this story for a bit. Initial reports said Russians blamed France, but Swizlerland has come forward saying it was their jet.

Russia threatening a neutral nation? Oh my.

Switzerland's military said one of its fighter jets performed a routine identification check on a Russian plane in Swiss air space on Monday, prompting Moscow to complain the aircraft came "dangerously" close to each other.

Russia initially summoned the French ambassador in Moscow to protest, alleging a French military jet had come into "dangerous proximity" with the Tupolev, whose passengers included the Speaker of its lower house en route to Geneva.

Moscow, which had threatened not to use France as a venue for international meetings in retaliation, later apologized for the mistake.

An AK in every house from what I hear.

Better. A SIG.

Up until the 1980s they would have a 500 round brick of ammo in the home, but now militia members have no ammo for their arms. They have to drive / walk / run to base to get it. So the paradigm you often hear isn't really true anymore.

After their service, they may be licensed to keep their arm and the SIG must be switched from select fire to semiauto only.

I know Russia must be trembling in thier boots at the thought of the Swiss rattling sabers or the French for that matter

You say that, but look at the first world war. France or Germany could have secretly flanked the others through Swiss territory to break the deadlock of the western front. However both feared Switzerland enough not to try.

There is no provenance to this quote but:

"Shortly before World War I, the German Kaiser was the guest of the

Swiss government to observe military maneuvers. The Kaiser asked a

Swiss militiaman: 'You are 500,000 and you shoot well, but if we

attack with 1,000,000 men what will you do?' The soldier replied: 'We

will shoot twice and go home.'"

PS. I have no swiss relatives or relations.

That's an awful lot of lead. I imagine the Swiss were a very violent people in those days.

Given the correlation, perhaps we'll see a greater trend towards lead free bullets. Lead exposure is actually something OSHA monitor's at firing ranges, although they still use guidelines from the 70's.

I've helped design and sold about a dozen air filtration systems for shooting ranges on the east coast.
