Income Question

Hello everyone,

My question is this: I was previously married, divorced in 2014 and moved to Morocco for nearly a year. I did not file taxes in 2014 because I did not make enough money to do so. My previous tax return for 2013 was from when I was married to my exhusband so both of our incomes are on there. I only came back to the US at the end of May and started my job on 6/1. I'm hoping that by the time we get to the point where they want AOS and income information, I will have over 6 months of pay check stubs but my gross income for 2015 will only reflect 6 months of income since I wasn't here the first half of the year. Any suggestions on what I need to do to clarify things for both the NVC and the consulate ? I don't want there to be any problems when my husband goes for his interview.

It's not about year to date income but rather annualized income. The income you indicate on the I-864 is your current annualized income. (unless you are self employed then it is the amount shown on line 22 of the most recent tax year's form 1040)

I will just give you my current expierence. On paper and by proof I made more than enough to sponsor my husband BUT they only look at your past three years taxes. They didn't care that I had hard times last year and am now making above the poverty level. They based thier decision on my last years taxes only. I had to find a co-sponsor to complete my husbands AOS (adjustment of status from K1).

actually your current income is what you are projected to make for the year. It may or not be the same as reported on your tax return. most people t will not be the same. The Tax return income is what you actually did make

to figure out your total income for most you can either do

1. pay per hour x average hour work (most people it is 40) x 52 weeks in a year

2. salary per month before taxes x 12 months in a year

your current income does not count deductions,bonuses , overtime pay or any other added or subtraction income. That is why most people current income is different then what is reported on the Tax return

I think it depends on the embassy I file for my wife in the Philippines and I was only at a job for 5 months and was approved.
