I just married on my K1 visa and am preparing to send my packet to start the Adjustment Of Status phase and have a question as I don't want to an RFE. We got married on 09/11/15 through the court and have what appears to be a decorative marriage certificate. We also were told to go to the probate court upstairs in the court house to print out marriage certificate. Is a marriage certificate the same as a marriage licence. Is the marriage certificate I received in my probate court office what I need to send in the application for adjustment of status?

Married in probate court? Probate court deals with the assets of a deceased person, their wills and liabilities. It does not deal with marriage.

the normal place to get copy of marriage certificate is county clerk's office, although the larger city governments also have them. Each state is a little different

the marriage certificate and the marriage license is two different things. The marriage license is what you get in order to get married showing you and your fiancée are able to married. A license to married . The marriage certificate is what you will get after you are married, proving your marriage. A certification of your marriage

No to the decorative keepsake marriage certificate, and yes to the marriage certificate you got from the court after your marriage was registered. It should have some sort of stamp or seal and signature of the clerk of courts on it to show it is a true copy(certified).
