Received an RFE. Does it mean my case is almost approved?

It has been nearly six months since we submitted our Adjustment of Status application and now we have received an RFE. Does this mean that our case should be completed after we submit the required RFE materials?

No, not necessarily. It can take 12-14+ months if you get an interview letter and faster if you do get an interview.

It can still take many months after the RFE.

Well, that is depressing.

Why did they even open our case? This is the second time they have sent us an RFE (one when they first received our case) and now five months later. I don't see why they don't send me one, complete RFE list so I can just get it all over with. Now I am thinking they will send me a third RFE randomly in another five months since it is apparently at random.

And yeah.. we received a letter saying we may be eligible for an interview waiver. What does this mean and why does it slow the case down? It seems like something of that nature should speed the case up, if anything.

They are too backlogged and it takes another 6 months + for many after they receive the waiver letter. I have no idea why they don't send all RFE's

at the same time, it seems very inefficient and happens all the time.

Since I received the interview waiver about a month and a half ago, would it be realistic to expect our approval in five months? I know you said it takes 6+, but is 6 the most common?

I filed at the end of March and have been noticing people from January, February, and even March getting approved even though they received the visa waiver letter. Can it take 14+ months, yes it can. But you might be getting close. Don't despair. At least you get the problem fixed now rather than waiting 12 more months to learn of it.

I'm starting to hope that I won't get the waiver and I just have to do the interview....

Received an RFE notice yesterday and silly me thought "oh good, they've looked at our case maybe something will happen now" guess we have a looooong way to go
