What a waste - she's not an actress, she's a singer. She maybe deserves a grammy. An oscar? No way.

Well, to me it's more reasonable to talk about it NOW just as it's over than for days after....but each to his/her own...they can talk about it forever for all I care. No different than any other celebrity news. M.

I agree. Did she thank Simon Cowell on her acceptance speech? I remember Simon saying that he hoped Jennifer thanks him if she wins the Oscar. I haven't watched the show yet, we're a day behind here.

There are plenty of singers who act...and plenty of actors who sing. So what...if she did a good job in the film, then she deserves it. There is the key word y'see, FILM...not music album. Hence her getting an Oscar and not a Grammy.

I recall a couple of years ago Catherine Zeta Jones winning an Oscar for Chicago. She's an actress who sings...and very well too may I say.

Jennifer Hudson, deserved her OSCAR!! She sang and acted and did a darn good job at both...some people are multi-talented and she happens to be one of them.

I loved the Movie the Queen, I forget her name but she did a good job as well.

I saw Dreamgirls and didn't think that Eddie Murphy deserved an Ocscar.

I didnt see the Last king of Scotland, Babel...so I can't comment.

That doesn't make any sense at all. Just because she's an actress who can sing shouldn't exclude her from acting awards.

Helen Mirren. Classy actress indeed. She's brilliant in all she does.

I agree, that's the point I was trying to make. It doesn't matter what she does, she appeared in a FILM and did a damn good turn in it too.

Well some people think the Oscar nominations are politically motivated. Members of the Academy are film directors, actors, writers - it'd be hard to get them all in one room and agree unanimously about anything. One of my teachers in college was a member of the Academy so we got to watch a copy of Titanic ( back in 1997) before it was released on video. Perhaps there's a lot of talk in certain circles over which nominees they like best, but the voting is suppose to be done in secret.

Alot of it is in some ways...isn't everything?

Alot of it is also promotion...all the "For Your Consideration" rubbish. But, sometimes they DO get it right (i.e. Martin Scorsese FINALLY winning an Oscar!).
