Your income was 0, which was too low to have to legally file. Put N/A for that year's Total Income and include the statement. That is the evidence.

From the I-864 instructions, Page 8>

If you were not required to file a Federal income tax return under U.S. tax law because your income was too low, attach a typed or printed explanation.

Thank you KayDeeCee, its kind of confusing in the sense that it says "evidence" which I thought was some kind of government document like from IRS or something. Sorry to drag this question too much but when you say "statement" you mean "personal statement" right? So, basically write what I wrote in the letter above but in a statement style and not letter style and that would be counted as evidence?

Yes. You just explain that you were not in the US for most of that year and therefore did not work, had zero income and were not legally required to file an IRS tax return that year. You can cite the IRS Publication 17, if you wish. It states the filing requirement income threshold. But since your income was zero, I don't think that part is necessary.
