I think that you there in New England are much closer brethren to the (English) Canadians - I'm sure that they give you a "warm hug" when you cross-over into Canada from Vermont - "welcome home brother".

The PROBLEM lies in the WEST - specifically in the NORTHWEST.

You see, Canadians look at N.W. Americans as "gunslingers", you know, the "Wild Wild West" where we form MILITIAS.

Think of it this way:

North West Canada to "Dudley Do-right"

And North West United States to "Dirty Harry"

Canada

Happy to make you laugh.

Personally I go where I'm welcome. I have no interest in going where I am not welcome.

I have many relatives within 30 minutes drive of Canada and they AVOID Canada due to the hassles - as do most Washingtonians - ("the word is out").

Huh, I guess a different "word is out" in Vermont. I too have many relatives and friends who live a short drive from the border and they love going to Canada. And none of them (or me and my husband for that matter) have ever had any problem. Maybe it's just you and yours.

Beameups responses make me laugh, and glad he stays south of the Cdn border.

Agreed, lol.

you're confused dude. Did you read the articles that say Mexico will require you to have a passport soon? And that the US, your own beloved country btw, will require you to have a passport to get back to your own home if you leave?

I wonder what he'll do if he's inspected by US customs sometime? :P

Those are stereotypes, and as is often the case, stereotypes are incorrect. The Canadians I've met aren't "Dudley Do-Rights" and the vast majority of Americans sure aren't "Dirty Harrys." Are there some of each in Canada and the U.S.? Sure. But they're not the norm. ;)

And yes...unfortunately, due to the WHTI, you'll need a passport to get into Mexico or Canada and then to come back into the United States.

I happened to have lived close to the border in British Columbia just above Washington for about 15 years....

I didn't think Americans from Washington etc or the US for that matter were gunslingers or anything of the sort

I did think that some Americans were arrogant etc...

I would just leave the troll alone. He can keep his grumpiness south of the border

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

No problema dude, I know North from South.

Mexico Tourist Card: Get a tourist card at the border (or AAA) with a US driver's license and proof of citizenship (passport)

I always have my passport with me when I go to Mexico - been doin' it for DECADES.

The ONLY difference now is you'll need a passport TO GET BACK HOME.

But like I said "I go where I'm welcome" - I've been in S.E. Asia for years now :yes:(L)

Canada can keep itself "pure" from American contamination - nothing there but beavers and maple syrup anyway.

Mexico - "been there, done that" since the 1950's.

I'll stick to California when in the U.S. (home-sweet-home).

To visit Mexico by land in 2007, you need photo identification and a tourist card. To visit Mexico by air after the new passport deadline of January 23, 2007, you will need a passport and Mexico tourist card.

As a matter of fact you can (you probably would) get inspected by U.S. Border Patrol at Mexico. I personally NEVER have been detained in well over 1000 trips (over 40 years). Some try to smuggle drugs across from Mexico, some try to smuggle trunkloads of illegal Mexican aliens.

What the hell would an American bring back from Canada? a beaver pelt?

So why come here and create this LONG thread about why we should NOT go to Canada just because YOU had a bad experience? Pretty simple I think.....if you don't like it, JUST DON'T GO DUDE!!

You had a bad day...sorry about that. I've had a bad time coming through one of the airports in Canada. It's certainly NO reason not to ever go there again and it seems that everyone else who's posted in this thread feels the same way. Time to pack up your toys and get over it.

3 Items of Interest to Americans:

1. Water

2. Oil

3. Lumber

Sorry dude, but if "we" kept to our side of the boarder your country would be brought to her knees in these 3 areas. The US appetite in those areas is too great for her resources. Our nations are tied together in trade and in security for obvious and necessary reasons. Canada isn't stupid. We know that we NEED American Tourism, and these measure are to answer the US call for tougher security at our boarders. We are only responding YOUR countries demands on our boarders. After 9-11 there was this thing called "increased security" that became top priority in our countries for some very real reasons. SO.. it's one of those things we all have to grin and bear. You have every right to speak your mind, but the truth is you need us whether you want to admit it or no. We have had deep trade & tourism ties that aren’t going to go away just because you "proclaim" it so in this form. Your fear mongering is irresponsible in my opinion.
