I'm a complete noob when it comes to the AOS. When we filed for K1 I had read so much about it and I was so prepared I felt like a pro. This time it feels like we were more or less thrown into it. How does the processing work? I know that we've sent our package to the Chicago Lockbox... Does it then go to the local office, in my case the DC office? Or does it go to some kind of service center like with the K1?

As far as the processing goes, it's really random. My petition was filed at the Chicago Lockbox Facility and later was sent to The National Benefits Center. I really don't know much, but I'm thinking once the Service Center approves the I-130, then I think it will be forwarded to your local CIS office for processing. And depending on the local office, it may take anywhere from 3 to 12 months to be processed. Sometimes, if the USCIS deems your petition to be valid, you may get an Interview waiver in which case your petition will be adjudicated by one of the service centers. You will get a response from USCIS should they choose to proceed that route. Sorry, I sound like instructions from a manual..

It's a wait game, and we're all in it.. :)

Amuthan,

I got there 10.15- ish. I had read before on the forum that Wednesday would be a good time to go, before or after lunch. I don't know how valid that point is, but it sure seemed to work for me.

Thanks for the encouragement, I do hope we get the card sooner than 2 months.

What i wonder is whether the EAD is processed locally or by NBC...

Anyways, good luck tomorrow! hope all goes well!

Annara,

I took your advice! Showed up at around 10:15-ish. Thanks for the info! Three step process..

Step 1: Wait outside till you get called in

Step 2: Come in, Fill in an applicant information sheet, Security Check (switch off your cellphones before you go, even better leave em in your car).

Step 3: Meet and greet with the receptionist, (helps if you are an attractive woman! :P) Get a number, wait in a hall inside till you get called.

Once called, a worker would spray (disinfectant) and roll your prints over. Word of advice, relax your fingers and let him/her take your impressions.

They give you a customer service form (once you're done) to fill out, I filled in Excellent for all questions, as no one gave me grief for anything! :)

Overall, it was a pleasant experience! Glad, I got my biometrics done today! :)

Thank you for shedding some light on this process! And I'm pretty used to the waiting game of this process ;) But it's somehow makes you feel a bit better when you know more about the process and what's going on :) Thank you again!

Great, happy to hear all went well... Now we're just going to have to wait...let me know when you get any news from them. I gave them "excellent" too, as it was indeed very easy to go through the appointment and had no trouble for being there earlier.

For everyone else, good luck with your appointments and good luck with the entire process!

Will most likely have to abandon AOS as it seems like I won't get my case number in time to expedite my travel to go home and say goodbye to my father.

So sorry to hear that. I sometimes have this fear. I have been following this thread but reading your post really pushed me to come out and join you all. Tomorrow is my dad's birthday so I have put together a few birthday video clips from the early 90's that I had converted from 8mm cassettes.

About myself, I am adjusting status from B1.
