Well, I guess you've got it figured out despite being guilty of the same types of comments. Be prepared for others making inevitable assessments in your direction as well. I prefer to think people are a bit more complicated.

Great coded speech!

Hmm. At the tIme, in Germany there were many in denial, unaware etc. many didn't know about concentration camps. But now the young have studied the history of their country and are have been educated about the facts.

Not so sure about how history is taught in the southern states of the U.S. (See eieio's previous remarks)

And that's why there's a difference. But I do find it sad that a symbol that the majority of black people see as a sign of oppression is flaunted in our faces when we've let it be known how we feel about it.

Never heard it as a reference to anyone other than someone from Indiana.

Hmm. Guess people are complicated after all...

Actually I guess it should be if the servers were in the Midwest, but given that they are Saudi Arabia now no problemo.

Naughty +1;)

and this is the problem - not all black people in the south see it as a sign of oppression or have an issue with seeing it. that being said i think the majority of white people are just jumping on the 'down with the confederate flag' bandwagon right now because it's so easy to feel like something is being accomplished. banning an object is tangible. imo, it's high time the confederate flag is retired from all government buildings but leave it at that. if walmart wants to stop selling mugs with big breasted chics in confederate flag bikinis - awesome..but let's keep the focus where it needs to be - the actual vehicles of present day racism in this country. personally, i am very impressed by the president's decision to meet with people in federal prison to draw attention to justice reform. that's progress.

Its still related to Indiana. It has something to do with an autoplant that was built in Saint Louis back in the 50s. The company moved a bunch of people to Saint Louis from Indiana. So native Saint Louisans were against them at first and Hoosier picked up a negative connotation. Now if you live in the area hoosier is a term for white trash or red neck. Most people have no clue how it actually started.

This is something I don't see happening. Because we see the US as a post racial country. Any hardships are considered self inflicted.

For the record, that is the context in which I see this too. The Confederate flag has no place in government property. Outside those boundaries one should be able to display it, and one should also be able to disapprove and speak against it.

it has too. americans are being more and more uh, brown, as the generations pass. and way too many white people experience self inflicted hardship..
