What Do You Think About Uber

What does everyone think about Uber and the other ride sharing apps? I have been reading a lot lately of what they are doing (mostly Ubr as they seem to be the spearhead), and am not sure I completely agree. I guess most of the issues have arisen with their low end ride sharing service, and not their upper end limo services. It seems that if they are collecting money for transportation they are really a transportation company and not a technology company. I also am not sure I agree with their surge pricing practices, or how they insure the drivers when they are not in the act of transporting someone. I guess my biggest issue is how they seem to flaunt laws and cease and desist orders as they fight to work out the issues. Regardless of the regulation in the area of operation and if they are right or wrong, it is my opinion that they should follow the same rules.

Anyway, here is a recent story about Uber in South Africa.

I've never used Uber, but I've never liked the concept of a stranger without any licensing or experience giving me or a loved one a ride anywhere. They could be a total nut for all I know. I also don't like the fact that they can skirt the licensing process and the laws in place that other transportation companies must follow. My neighbor across the street is an Uber driver, he's retired and just a bit off his rocker. I wouldn't get in a vehicle with him behind the wheel if he was paying me.

Taxi drivers are all nuts!!!!

In London there are black cabs, which at least know where to take you (but boring conversation with lots of attitude), mini cabs-terrorists for drivers.

NY -loons borrowing friends medallions for the day and can't speak English-had one Nigerian one tell me his uncle had CIA contacts and gave me a contact number...

Tokyo-never know how to get from a-b, and the night time cabbies are abusive (but back down if threatened with the police). However tips not expected.

Could write a blog about this.

We don't have much public transportation in Dallas Fort Worth area, and none in my city. Very few Taxi's.

I have only heard good reports about Uber from all my friends, and they seem to be the way to go when going out on a night drinking.

They are much cheaper than taxi's. And Taxi driver here tend to wear a turban and have a tendency to loan their vehicle out to relatives so they can put ad's on craigslist and work under the table.

So I am a fan of Uber........
