Applying for a GC and I just got my EAD in time before my other EAD ran out. Which means my drivers license in due to run out in 5 days!! I went to the DMV and they said they wont be able to issue me a new ID until i get my Green Card!

That may be months away depending on the speed of my case. I'm so frustrated. I called USCIS and they said that is up to the DMV and they can't help me.

Shouldn't somebody be able to help me. I pay for my car and insurance and now i wont be able to drive it. Sounds crazy!

Please help if you have any information. Thank you guys.

DMV is staffed by those who failed the McDonalds intelligence test.

I would check the local DMV web site, most likely you spoke to someone who does not know their ####### from their elbow.

“If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.”

Each State is different but generally EAD is the first document that gets you a full DL. In Colorado you can also get one without proof of legal presence as well.

It depends the state. I managed to get one before my EAD/AP was even approved in Virginia. if you go into the DMV and ask for an application and look at the list of required documents to prove who you are and current status, then I think you should be okay, assuming you meet the criteria.

I believe it should not depend on the state. BMV is federal. It just depend on the branch you went to or the staff. You should ask to talk to the supervisor. I got my drivers' license with EAD with no problem. I call it a complete bullshit. Yes I agree with the comment " stuff that'd fail mcdonalds intelligence test"

Go to BMV website and learn more about it. Federal government issued you a work permit and you want to be able to go back n forth. Do not give in. Go to another branch

Yep!! The first time was my EAD off of my Student Visa so i had my I-20 etc with me as proof there because the card stated the conditions. This new EAD has no conditions but NOPE, won't give me one now.
