General inquiry?

What is a general inquiry? I decided to call USCIS on their BS. Tier 1 gave me the well Texas is processing September right now etc etc story. I told her that she and I both know that's bullshit and I know if I have heard of the Internet then so has the government. I know well that TSC is processing petitions all around mine and a bunch from 2015. I said you guys promised me 2015 wouldn't be touched until mine has been processed (Dec 15. 2014) last time I called. She said you may speak to a tier 2 if you'd like but they would say the same thing. I told her ok then I'd love to hear it from them too. I got called back by a tier 2 an hour later. He verified me and before I could speak said wow you're way outside processing times for that form And said he would place a service request immediately and I will hear in two weeks. I asked hear what. He said they will open your case and if the response is favorable to you you should get that response in two weeks time. Anyone familiar with this? And looking at my USCIS website it says a general inquiry has been opened but not yet assigned to an agent for processing. So, in just wondering what exactly I started. She is in on a visa waiver for 2.5 more months so I'm sure it will process normally any day now by the visa journey stats, but I just felt compelled to prod them a little. I basically told them that people share their stories on websites and I know damn well what applications are being processed and I'd like a reasonable answer on what's going on with mine some 6 months post submission. I was polite as can be, but like many on here I'm tired of waiting on them to do what takes 45 days in CSC. Rant over lol but the main question here is this. He said "service request" which I'm familiar with. The USCIS site on my petition days "general inquiry". Same? Different? Other? All of the above?

We had a general inquiry put in place after they hadn't responded to our outside normal processing request for 4 weeks. They, like you, promised a response after 2 weeks by mail, but 5 weeks later and they still haven't assigned the inquiry to an officer. Got NOA2 in the meantime. Good luck and I hope they catch up on all the work they've missed!

Interesting. See I've heard of a service request which according to a immi lawyer usually ends up expediting it. I've never heard of the general inquiry thing. We are statistically speaking to be approved late June to mid July so probably we will see an noa2 like you did (prior to anything being done on the inquiry).

Sorry to hear. Genuinely hope they pull through for you! We got the same spiel though, a decision would be made within 2 weeks blablabla. Here it is:

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).
