Hi VJer's!!! I finally got my GC today... I'm so happy...

and

I'm just a little confused about my SS card. I received my card on January and it has a note " valid for work only with DHS Authorization... ".. Do I need to go back to SS office for them to remove the restrictions on my card?

yes, wait a couple of weeks so that social security has the new status updated in their database, you will receive a new card without that in the mail

Not necessary to get that removed to work, as the green card IS authorization .

My wife worked for two years with that wording still on her SS card.

You will not get a new card unless you request it. SSA does not automatically mail a new card out without you requesting it.

The only reason to return to SS is to have a new SS with married name. If you have already finished that step, then no need to return. They will not issue a SS without that statement till such time you become a USC.

Vanity? Who sees the SS card except an employer? Removing the statement removes confusion for employers with low wattage light bulbs

Yes, I agree that if you remove the statement from SS it will eliminate any second guessing that the employer may make. In the first two years you change the SS card 3 times. Seems to me to be a waste of taxpayer money. Why issue it with the statement when the employer is required by law to e-verify. I am always learning. Thanks for your insight.

We are doing great. Yup it's hot 90plus. Wife bought her first car on credit. She is a big shot now.

Just to share my experience, my initial SSN card also had that Homeland Security restrictions. The reason for that is because I applied for it using my EAD. When I got my GC, I went back there and asked to remove the restriction. It was a smooth process and they just sent an updated one in the mail. Hope this information helps.

Change three times? My wife went to SS two days after we were married, requested her SS card in her MARRIED name, hadn't been back since until she went there to remove the statement a couple months back. Ya... we were lucky and got a person at SSA with a brain, instead of made of straw

My ss card has my married name on it... I just can't understand why every time I provide or entered my SS # (for example, to subscribe in Xfinity (internet provider)) I always got an "invalid SS #" message..

That's why I came up posting a topic here in VJ,

I think I might need to go back to SS office to remove the restrictions on my SS card...
