Getting married early

Hi,

I expect to get my K1 towards the end of the year. We plan to get civily married as soon as I arrive.

What happens if I choose to get civilly or religiously married before I arrive? Say have a small family wedding here in london and then go to America under the K1?

Im assuming I cant get re-married civilly, will my K1 be invalid if im already married?

Yes it will. You should not marry in any ceremony that would be legally binding at all; doing so will invalidate your K-1 and cause you Big Problems.

You may certainly get married in London before you travel to the U.S.

However, please note that doing so invalidates your K-1 fiancé visa (for obvious reasons...as you are no longer a fiancé...you are a spouse) and because you are a spouse you'd get to start all over again with a spousal visa.

To me, it would be a huge waste of money and time to marry in the UK before coming to the US.

Married is married - The U.S. recognizes all marriages. So if you marry in London you are married in the US. There would be no reason to 're-marry' in the U.S.

You cannot get re-married civilly, you only get married once.

I suggest either a engagement ceremony/party in the UK, or use the K1, get married in the USA, then when you have your travel permit, return to the UK for a honeymoon and blessing ceremony.
