Recieved NOA2, but fiance wants to come here in 10 months, how to time this?

My fiance wants to move here in April 2016. She chose this time as it will make things more convenient for her in regards to quitting her job, finishing her leasing agreement, and take care of some other things that she needs to do in her home country.

Since it looked like it can take anywhere from around 1-8 months just for the I-129f to be processed, I went ahead and sent it in April. My understanding is that it shouldn't be any problem to get it extended as long as we need. I just found out today that my I-129f has been approved, and received the NOA2 notification.

However, in regards to all the additional documents and things that my fiance needs to collect, such as police records, birth records, medical examination, and so on, I understand that some of those things can expire after some time. So my question is, given this timeline, when should my fiance try to take care of getting all of her documents, her medical exam, and scheduling her interview?

In these immigration proceedings, due to the myriad of possible roadblocks and delays, the only time frame that you can rely upon is USCIS. You will have less stress if you plan your time frame around theirs, instead of the other way around.

Without knowing what country/embassy you're going to be dealing with, it's a little hard to answer your question with any specifics. Since the K-1 Visa application is generally extended up to a year by the embassy from the date of the I-129f approval, your fiancee will be cutting things a little close. I recommend you check your country's embassy info and review tabs at the top of this page to see how others have scheduled things. Also read through your country's portal for details. And use the search window, as well.

There are 2 ways you can delay processing:

1. The NOA2 can be extended for up to one year after approval, and
2. The K-1 visa is valid up to 6 months from the date of the medical exam

Simply put, delay applying for the visa until closer to 2016. Might be a good idea to inform the embassy of your intent to delay processing and that you are still pursuing the visa.
