Two Correctional Officers suspended without pay in connection with alleged looting

TOWSON, MD — Two correctional officers have been suspended without pay after being charged today with theft and burglary in connection with looting that occurred during riots last month in Baltimore.

Acting on a tip, Maryland Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services (DPSCS) intelligence officers and detectives from the Intelligence and Investigative Division (IID) reviewed video footage that allegedly showed looting from a closed 7-11 store in the 300 block of West Baltimore Street in downtown Baltimore. The video, recorded during the evening of April 25, shows two women later identified as Tamika Cobb and Kendra Richard leaving the store with merchandise.

Both women had been assigned to a downtown Baltimore Division of Correction facility. They are on leave without pay as the charges against them include a felony.

“Our Intelligence and Investigative Division did an outstanding job, immediately following-up on this tip,” said DPSCS Secretary Stephen T. Moyer. “We will not allow the vast majority of our employees who are honest and hardworking to be tainted by the actions of a few.”

The officers had initially been placed on administrative leave during the investigation until being criminally charged today. They are now suspended without pay and being processed at Central Booking.

this right here. who wants to wager lib would never had made such statements if the women were white, wouldn't have even posted the story? this is ok. by vj standards, anyone reading..all ok. making blanket statements about black people is ok.

but let a black person call out white people. oh no. here comes the butt hurt....

now this back and forth will never end. it takes people who see that this isn't a double standard but a completely different standard, and a standard that the majority makes.

Ow, it is a completely different standard. And you have mods who encourage it.

I want to know how can I get on the "I'm a racist, post racist stuff, make sexist statements," but don't get banned list? It is a celebrity list indeed.

He would not have come across that story because it would not have shown up on his FB news feed.

Apparently, it's quite ok to tell a member that their ancestors were oppressors and the "master race", as long as you're white. But let the black member point this out, politely I might add, and all hell breaks loose...

Ow they see it. It is apparently entertaining for them to see their only two black members in CEHST feel alienated.

But we like some of you all over here way to much to let this keep us away. :content:

Institutionalized. You get so used to it, you don't even see it. That's why some members see nothing wrong with it, they don't know any other way and are too comfortable within the status quo to try and change it.

Don't know about you, but they aren't that good. I demand higher quality racism. At least give me a challenge. If I leave it's because there's no fun in fighting a child. If you're going to step to me, bring your A-game. That way I don't feel so bad when I pulverize you...

i think some just genuinely don't see it. sure some see it but feel justified in their opinions.

imo there are a bunch of white people who don't feel like they should feel guilty for being white, but feel as if this is what it required to recognize privilege. but i don't feel guilty for being white and i don't think that i should. i was born without any say so as to what skin color i have. if i had a choice i would have, at minimum, picked skin that was capable of getting at least one shade darker than skim milk. i'm definitely a descendant of vampires.

Well, depends on what you call intelligent. Typically, it's borne out of ignorance and hate, so if you go in with facts and compassion, you'll come out on top, regardless of the outcome. But here, they're so eager to try and prove us wrong they paint themselves into a corner using their own logic.
