We are considering applying for my father's visa extension even though I am not sure if it will be approved as he already did it once when he was here with me during my stressful divorce process. We are hoping my fiance will get his visa before October so that he can be here on time for the baby's birth. 5 more months to go...

Hi,

I read your topic headline and thought, "I don't remember writing that." I am going through the exact same thing currently. Including being a December filer at TSC. I am due any day now and I have no local family to help me (I have hired a doula for the birth and my fiance and I will be on Skype).I am very very depressed. Originally, I went to Italy for 3 months and came back in March, naively, I thought we would be together by now. I came back, because the life we want is in America, and we felt me being here (mind you not as long alone as anticipated) we the best choice. I have as much of the paperwork I can complete now for the babies passport. Babies, do not need a ssn for a passport, however, they do need an original certified copy of the father granting permission for the child to get a passport. I was told by the airline and my doctor a healthy newborn can fly at 7 days old. It takes a little less than a month to get a passport. Once our child is born I will finish the application and we will head to Italy. Not ideal, but I believe it is so important for the 3 of us to be together as soon as possible.

Additional, this gives me a bit of hope. If you look at the processing times for Texas you will see by the end of February they were processing applications for the end of August. Give or take a little it has seemed they generally process one month in a month. So that would mean March=September, April=October, May= November, and June= December. I pray every night and cross my fingers that I am somewhat close to the "end"

One other thing, our attorney tried right away to get our case expedited too and it didnt work. I email all my senators and congressmen each week. I feel productive doing so, They tell me they are looking into the case. Who knows what person might be able to get something to shake a little quicker.

When the baby is born you and the father (your fiancé) will both have to make an appointment at your embassy to get a CRBA for the baby as well at the same time you can apply to get the babies social security card and U.S. Passport as well . You will need to prove you are a U.S citizen and that you have been in the u.s. for 5 full years 2 of those being after the age of 14 . Easy proof is highschool/ college transcripts . Depending on your embassy this can be super quick or a few weeks .

Just wanted to say that for an unmarried US mother, you need to prove you were in the US for one continuous year (Harder than it sounds, from my experience) 5 years/2 after 14 is for unmarried father, or married US citizen/alien spouse.

Anyway, OP sounds like you have figured out your plans... best of luck!

I am with you 100% in this situation. It is very stressful and...sad, especially when you come to the doctor's office for a checkup seeing all other women in the waiting room escorted by their husbands.

I had never heard about the "doula" service until I opened this topic. I will look into it. Thanks,

Try to take care of yourself and the baby.

Thanks. I really wanted to go back to be with him through this process but I am afraid it will affect my business, which also means my K-1 sponsorship will be at risk.

A visa granted in August will be wonderful. I do really hope so.

If expedites were granted for pregnancy, just think about how many people would be trying to get pregnant just to get their fiances here quicker! Unfortunately, though it's terrible not being able to have your fiance with you for the pregnancy, it's not a good enough reason for an expedite.

Anyway, I agree with the others and just want to reiterate that of course no one can predict whether or not you'll have the visa before you give birth, but HOPEFULLY you will have your NOA2 sometime in the summer! They have been approving some October filers (myself included) now (I think May will be a lot of October filers), so hopefully they will get to yours in several months. But, keep an open mind to your options.

As a December filer, with current processing times, I'd say you could be realistically looking at (POSSIBLY, everyone is different! don't quote me!) a NOA2 in late July or August. However, even with current processing, there are still people who get stuck waiting past the 7 month processing, so that's why I say think about this and keep your options open. Then AFTER your NOA2, it could take up to a month to reach NVC (but average 2 weeks or so) and then the time it will take to get a visa at the consulate depends on the country. Some can take only 2 weeks for an interview, while others take several months. So if you haven't already, check out your country's processing times to get an idea of how much time it could take after your NOA2. You can find that info here ( http://www.visajourney.com/timeline/stats.php?history=90), and also by messaging others on here who have recently gone through the k1 in your country. You can't completely rely on the experience of others because it differs case to case, but it can help give you somewhat of an idea of what is possible for you.

I hope that everything turns out so that he can be with you! And a congratulations on your baby :)
