My friend had her wedding in the beginning of August 2006 and she and her SO filed for DCF in Cairo, Egypt in the end of August. They both went in for an interview before the labor day weeked in September. She came back to the US and he then had his medical exam and completed his packet 3 papers and had his separate interview the 1st week of November. He was put on AP for months and we were all worried about the new regulations with DCF due to the Adam Walsh Act.............................but........................... yesterday her husband received a letter telling him to come to the Cairo consulate........he called the consulate to enquire further and they said to bring your passport for the ta`sheera (visa).

I am happy for her.....she is ecstatic.

I am also kicking myself...............why didn't I do DCF from Egypt.........actually I know why I didn't........I thought that they would be so incompetent with papers and lose things and cause unnecessary delays................but that is exactly what I got with filing with USCIS. I WISH I did DCF.....we were in Egypt the same time last summer......I even got married a month before she did.

And what's even better.....he'll be coming in on a CR-1 visa......they won't have to worry about filing ANYTHING until they do the lifting of conditional residency.............how sweet is that............

Congrats to your friend....I'm sorry for this though that you didn't file this way. The laws are so intimidating and confusing you never know what to do. Do you have your interview date yet? Try getting a provisional file set up and maybe they could start the background checks now? I heard of this provisional file in another forum all they would need is the NVC case number, which they should have already.

I hope it goes quickly for you.

I honestly think that I will become more of a looney tune than I am now if I start comparing other people's cases. Everyone is different and even though their first names are both Mohammed, it depends on the entire name. I mean if they went by first names I'd be royally screwed since my husband is Usama. lol. Lucky for me he's not 6'4" with a long white beard!!!!

Actually, he was on AP for about 4 months and that part was long. However, what helped her and, this is why DCF was quicker, was that they filed the papers, had an initial interview (both of them), he did the medical and had his interview....all of this was completed in about 2 months......whereas, I filed with USCIS in august (fedexed my I130 application from egypt) and hope (PLEASE GOD) to have an interview date sometime in April..........8 months just to get an interview.......and then God only knows how long we'll be put on AP. I've already accepted the fact that we'll get put on AP......I like to prepare myself for the worst & hope for the best.

wow i'm suprised it took so long to get the noa2 from vermont! The timeline's I've seen average around 30 days. UGH. There's just no rhyme or reason to this. And yeah, I think AP is a given in Egypt.

Yep, no sense in going over that now!!! They kept trying to tell me I had to stay longer in Egypt when I got married . . . I took 3 weeks vacation when I went 2 years ago. No way I could have done a DCF anyway because you have to stay for longer than that . . . I mean I have a job that doesn't even like to give you 2 weeks off much less 2 months (and that would have been without pay . . . not gonna do that!!!).

Don't beat yourself up over this. When I started the whole process I was told by many to do the K-1 because it was so much faster than the K-3. HA! Like you I because very discouraged when I saw others that were interviewed the same day as us that would get their visa in 4-6 weeks and we continued to wait. There is no rhyme or reason to how things are done there and why AR/AP takes a few days for some and months for others. You will hear that all cases are different. I swear if I continued to hear that I would've gone nuts. ;) Hang in there...your time will come too (F)
