I-864 part 6 sponsers income from taxes if filed foreign earned income exclusion

Hello,

Thank you for accepting me in the group. I am a US citizen filing form I-864 on behalf of my wife. I am confused by I-864, Part 6, Sponsers Income on lines 13.a-c. What is the value of total income that they want you to put in the box from the IRS Form 1040 because I have worked outside the US for the last 6 years and filed the foreign earned income exclusion (IRS Form 3555) every year. This means that I have excluded all of the money I made working as a bona finde resident of a foreign country. Therefore, I did not make any money in the US, and my adjusted gross income is basically 0. Do they want the corresponding line from wages and earnings on the IRS form? Has anyone filed this form with my situtaion and if so what did you do?

This is the reason I am confused. If I write $0, then that does not reflect my actual income that was above the threashold required from my wages in the same tax form. So how then do you qualify? I does not make sense that you cant use previous income from outside of the United States.

1. You can get a joint sponsor.

2. I believe there is also a way to do this with assets. Seems like it is $60K cash or other liquid assets, but this is guess. Maybe someone else out there knows more about this.

I believe the general reason they do not allow your income from foreign countries is that it will not be continuing as you are moving to the USA. The AOS is a guarantee/proof from us that our spouses will not become dependent on the state in the future.
