Hi fellow visa journey experts.

My work lawyer is about to file I-140 with premium processing, since my visa availability status is about to become current. I choose consular processing option in Montreal.

I am exited and have several questions. I will use this thread to ask questions, and looking forward to hearing stories/links to stories etc who went through similar route. I am looking for mostly stories from people who did consular processing in Montreal. But anyone else who recently did consular processing elsewhere is also welcome to comment.

My first question is about medical examination.

How much time do these clinics in Toronto and Montreal take to do the examination, and return the result in sealed envelops? I read the one in Montreal take 2 days. So I was hoping if anyone of the 3 doctors in Toronto give it back same day, I can shorten my trip out of work.

And how much does this exam cost?

Medisys in Montreal takes 3 days after the medical day (so 4 in total) and the doctors in Toronto take about a week to 2 weeks if I remember correctly.

Exam for an immigrant visa ia 300ish but it's best to ask the panel physicians all these questions so that you get the right info for your visa type.

I hope that many days are being taken if the doctors have to provide any vaccinations or treatments. I am planning to have all vaccinations in advance from my current physician in US, and bring his certificate there.

And why Toronto ones taking week to 2 weeks? Are they overly busy?

Their labs seem to take longer but I'm not sure why. Most panel physicians are regular doctors as well. The only lab that gets the results back the next day is Dr Cheema in Surrey.

From this site it looks like since I am in US, I should be able to get the medical exam in US. It doesn't say much about if I am choosing consular processing then I must go to that country specific doctor.

If you interview in the USA you use a Civic surgeon. If you interview in Canada, as far as i have ever read, you MUST use a panel physician in Canada. You may want to look at your choice of consular processing?

I-140 is approved .... Yay!!!

My lawyer submitted the I-140 on April 7th, and got receipt on April 8th.

USCIS case search was showing that they received the file on April 10th. I checked today, and they said the following:

Case Was Approved

On April 15, 2015, we approved your Form I-140, Immigrant Petition for Alien Worker , Receipt Number ***************. We will mail your approval notice. Please follow the instructions in the notice.

I would have to do the medical in Canada. :(

Good day,

The U.S. Consulate will only accept medical examination from one of our designated panel physician in Canada. Any other medical examination will NOT be accepted. You will be provided further instructions only when you are scheduled an interview.

You may contact NVC for further inquires.
