how to apply for marriage license

hi!!! i just wanna know if i can apply for a marriage license by myself if my fiancee still in phils.. because im planning to apply once he will be approve so that once he got here will go straight for the ceremony.. is that possible? how did u guys did it.. any input is well appreciated. thank you in Advance

When I applied for mine, my fiance was with me. We had to show both our ID's and birth certificates. Its probably different for each state/county. Call your local municipality office, they should be able to tell you.

This is from the California State Department of Health website: "To marry in California, the two parties may not already be married to each other or another individual. Both parties must appear in person and bring valid picture ID to their County Clerk's office to apply for a marriage license".

Yep, almost all states require both parties to be present. Some require blood tests, others have a waiting period. The real key though is that even if they didn't require both parties they typically have an expiration date - 60 or 90 days, it wouldn't be indefinitely.

It normally is one of the quickest items to get so I wouldn't worry about having it ahead of time.

Besides, after you apply, you get the marriage license typically within 2 weeks,

and during that time you can also apply for SS card...keep in mind that some

counties may (or at least confused into thinking that) social security number

is required to apply for the marriage license. So you should look into this.

For the marriage license specifically in LA they do walk in ceremonies on a first come first serve basis. Or you can call to schedule an appointment if you want a specific date. So yes you can book and appointment before he arrives if you know approximately his arrival date. Note the certificate/ceremony fee's are cheaper in Orange county too if you guys didn't know and don't mind the drive. cheers !
