Translator Provided at Guangzhou? Can I Attend Interview? [split topic]

I know Guangzhou China has become a two step process. When you go to give your biometrics the beneficiary can request a chinese speaking CO then. Check the US consulate site for the city where the interview will occur and see if they have anything under the visa page. You can call them also and explain the situation (making it known that you both speak a common language). If nothing else, that will establish a record at the consulate that you can communicate with each other easily

First of all, I realize this post is four years old, and it was recommended that the posting should be moved to US Embassy/Consulate Forum. I checked the Sub-forum and no specific discussion was noted. NVC has our case going on 80 days with review and case closure pending. US Embassy assigned is Guangzhou, China

That being said; I have two questions and read of varying opinions on both subjects.:

1. Will a translator be available and provided at the interview for my Chinese speaking wife? She speaks only limited English.

2. Can I attend the interview?

Thank You

Agree with NUWORLD.

Though it may be a plus is your significant other asks to speak English at their interview. Not sure of the new consulate, I went for a cop of coffee near the consulate. However, if you are able to support your spouse before and after the interview, that is priceless. It is a big step in your relationship.

YMMV,

Good luck on your immigration journey.

How well will the CO believe that I speak Chinese and my wife and I communicate in Chinese?

My wife doesn't speak English at all (aside from a few basic sentences), so she'll have to do the interview in Chinese

The VO don't care if you speak Chinese or not.

The VO is not interviewing you.

He/she is interviewing your wife.

Interview in Chinese is no problem, They will ask.

Though sometimes they do ask how do you communicate with each other.

I would say: Pocket translator for now or QQ.

Worked for my wife.

She passed her interview without any issues.

She conducted it in Chinese, and they did ask us how we communicate, and she told them I speak Chinese (which is true).

She had prepared a mountain of chat logs to prove this, but they didn't ask to look at them.

Overall, it was a very easy interview.

Congratulations! However, this is the one issue when the beneficiary does not speak English, the VO often will want proof that the Petitioner does speak Chinese. Lack of a common language can be a reason for denial as it hard to imagine how one has a legitimate relationship without a common language.
