I went in with my naturalization certificate 5 days after becoming a citizen. 0 problems.

Thanks for the reply. The passport agency still has it since it's sent after the passport. I was gonna be in the area of my local social security office tomorrow that's why I wanted to know.

I checked their website and it says the U.S. Passport serves as a form of verifying citizenship, but wanted to hear from someone who actually only took their passport with them to social security.

Contacted my US senator this morning to make sure they had received my privacy release I faxed in on Friday. They have received it and inquired about my case with immigration on Friday and now they have been sucked into this fantastic waiting game with me :cry:

My senator did get back to me, and they just repeated the USCIS rhetoric that I have to wait until 30 days after the processing time indicated on website, which is Jan. 24, 2015 as of now for NYC field office.

Yet at the same time people on VJ who filed after me (see May or June thread) are all getting interviews (or have it done).

This is really an upsetting process. Can't even schedule my family trip now as who knows when USCIS will schedule it. Feeling helpless and unfairly punished for no reason. I didn't even do anything wrong.

I just heard back today also from my Senator, no news except I am stuck in a background check. I don't know what the problem is, I've never been in trouble with the law. It never took this long for a background check for my AOS, what would cause it to delay this time around? I don't get it.

I just heard back today also from my Senator, no news except I am stuck in a background check. I don't know what the problem is, I've never been in trouble with the law. It never took this long for a background check for my AOS, what would cause it to delay this time around? I don't get it.

Well my case seems even worse. My Senator didn't even elaborate on that. I tried to contact the second and only remaining Senator in my state today, but I guess he would give me the same response. sad.

I do suspect background check being the issue for me, which is also odd. I am single, never married. never had kids. Come here as a student and no criminal record. I didn't even run a red light. Not sure why I am stuck.

The only thing came to my suspect is my name. I have a hyphenated name (eg. Park Geun-hye. I am not Korean but just using it as an example. so Park is the Surname and Geun-hye is First Name). Somehow ever since Day 1 when I applied for the visa in the very beginning, the embassy in my home country asked us to drop the hyphen and replace it by a space, so First Name ended up being "Geun Hye" and Surname "Park."

It all worked out fine and it appears to be normal on GC that it reads Geun Hye Park, and I never had an issue however I use it ("Geun Hye", "Geunhye" or "Geun-hye" as how it writes on my passport) when crossing borders, applying for credit cards, etc. The only exception is that on my SSN card it only has "Geun Park".

Now I am just really worried if they mess up my name and thought "Hye" is the middle name and can't locate my file, and therefore just put my file aside and forgot about it. But there is also no way I can check what really happened. It really annoys me that this whole uncertainty can't be resolved.

Once again, I can't totally understand high volume leads to long wait. And I can totally buy it if everyone has to wait, and is processed by the order of case reception. But if a small number of people like us have to wait undefined extra long time, I think it's reasonable that at least we are given some sorts of explanations of what is going on and what to expect. Make us all hang here wondering is just so bad and not right.

I hear ya! I am beyond frustrated and stressed out, I really thought i would have gotten a better answer from my Senator, I don't even know how to wrap my head around "case is pending background clearance" does that mean it is pending to even go through the background check or has it been being worked on all this time. I have an extremely common name and now I am wishing I would have changed it when I got married, but instead I decided to wait until this was all done to avoid any problems, joke is on me (IF that is the problem). My field office processing time is 5 months, I should have my citizenship by now. I really hope immigration is full of ####### saying they are still pending a clearance and just can't admit my file has been sitting and collecting dust. Not sure what else to do at this point :cry: besides more waiting.

Federal District judge can force the agency to wrap up whatever part of the process is causing delay, but keep a record of whatever you've done so far (call, infopass, senator correspondance, etc.) because apparently the judge has to be convinced that it's an unusual delay, and that you have tried everything possible to get results first. I'm saying this based on what i've read and found in numerous cases where there was an unusual delay.

I have contacted my senator too, and got a receipt letter acknowledging my request for intervention. They said they'll let me know within 30-60 days what they find out. Did you both get a senator's receipt letter too after submitting the request?

I have a copy of my Senator's response in my email, and a copy of all emails of our conversations about my issue. If that is what you mean by receipt, then yes I got it. As for trying to get a judge to force the agency to finish what should be finished by now, it sounds complicated and expensive, not sure if it would be worth it, only 5 months in so far. I am frustrated in the waiting but I am holding on to some hope that within the next month I will get something, even an in line for interview, would make me happy right now. Maybe something of interest further down the road though, so I do thank you for the advice, it is something I will have to do some research on.

Heh Im almost 35 and had to go out last night to buy some hair dye to cover up my wonderful grey hairs I have gotten in the past few months due to the stess of this whole process, my husband's new nickname for me is "Stripe" :rofl:
