I was wondering if you usually get the notification via e-mail first or see it online?

If I look for our number on the USCIS side it says "At this time USCIS cannot provide you with information for your case. Please contact the NCSC 1 (800) 375-5283 for additional information."

So we created an account which shows the last update on 03/16. That's all.

How do we usually find that our petition was approved or not?

first of all, you are not in the California Serivce Center. If that were the case, you would have received your NOA2 by now or at least an RFE. You are in the Texas Service Center.

Well, in our NOA1 it says that we are in the California Service Center. WHY should I have my NOA2 or an RFE by now? According to VJ they work on NOA1 with date of 03/01 right now. Ours is dated 03/11. So why should WE have our NOA2 already while those dated earlier are still waiting? Huh?

Once your petition is approved you will receive a notification text and then an email stating your status has changed. When you log into your account on the USCIS website you can click on your case status and it will tell you the status of your case there. It may say that it was received in which case it's still processing. Otherwise it will notify you if you have an RFE, Approved, ETC.

Cheers.

Thanks Stephanie!

But where is my case now? California or Texas?

Have no idea why ascertainLovE thinks that it's in Texas?! That confuses me a bit!

If your email and noa1 letter both say its in CA then it's in CA. That is unless they transferred your case to TX for some reason...check the USCIS site and see if it's been forwarded to NVC or is being processed.

Yes CA does send you a notification letter saying they're processing it but usually its faster just to call NVC up to get your case number and to get the actual status. NO they do not send emails or text for NOA2 since they use a completely different systems/departments then USCIS. CA usually doesn't update the status so the USCIS site will always say it's been forwarded to NVC without any further updates. We literally received your hard copy notification letter AFTER our embassy had already received our packet lol.

Wait about 2-3 weeks after you receive your NOA1 email/text and start calling NVC until you get through to someone. Good luck!

Dont worry, you are probably in Cali. You are Oregon AND your notices say CA. No way you are at TCS.

I had the same problem when I first started using the USCIS website. then one day it just worked. Just keep trying.

But I can only check using my case number, it wont let me create an account (I am the beneficiary), but my fiance has one and it works fine. I have heard from others, that once they were outside of the US they got frequent error messages.

thats also a good question to ask in your March 2015 CSC subforum! Other people might experience the same.

You're in California centre if your NOA reads that. Not sure where the other poster came to that conclusion from.

Dave just called NCSC and they said that they are transitioning to a new system and it takes 30-45 days for the case number to show up with information. But since we got the NOA1 in the mail it means that it is processing and there is not problem and it's also still in California and not Texas.
