getting married without SSN?

I was just reading about getting a marriage license in Arkansas and having your social security number was a must. Is this just this state or do all places require this? I would think not since there are probably tons of people from other countries getting married in the USA. Anyone have any ideas or suggestions about what to do? I know we could just wait to go get it, but we were wanting to get married right away.. thanks for any help!

April 21 Dave arrives in America!

April 28 WE GET MARRIED!!!

May 9 Went to SS office and was denied

May 15 After gathering all paperwork, told we must file through DORA program

July 19 DORA appointment - they send paperwork to Chicago after this.

July 24 Paperwork is received by Chicago

August 9 Notice for Biometrics appointment

August 28 NOAs for AOS/EAD

Sept 6 Biometrics

Sept 26 Email saying card production ordered for EAD.. YES!!!

Oct 9 EAD card, Yay!!!!!

Dec 31 Finally got the Resident card! Yay!!!

Varies from State to State. Did not require one in Virginia.

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied,that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

As far as I know, they require it on Missouri. But I need to so more homework on this. I believe it varies fron state to state.

July 18, 07: AOS/EAD sent to Chicago

Aug 03, 07: Received Biometrics appt. letter

Aug 23, 07: Biometrics

Aug 30, 07: Transfer to CSC letter dated 8/27

Sept 19, 07: EAD Approval email

Sept 29, 07: EAD card Received

Oct 09, 07: AOS Approved

Oct 13, 07: Green Card in hand

Not sure about AR, but many states (MI, MD, VA) do not.

That makes the solution actually rather simple--go to another state (such as TN).

In Idaho(Canyon County)...I was told that the SSN Office gives you a letter to take with you to the court house..It states that you have applied.. and you supposely can get the marriage License with that..

9/14 2006 I-129F Sent Next day Air

9/15 Recieved and signed for by "Freeman" at NSC

9/19 NOA1 CSC Recieved

9/25 Notice date Check cashed 9/25

9/28 I Recieved NOA1(I-797C) in the mail

12/5 NOA2 12/6 but Approved on 12/5 touch

12/9 Received NOA2(I-797) by snail mail

12/15 NVC has received it..Case # issued...

12/19 NVC shipped to Romania

12/22 Romanian Embassy has received an email from NVC that my Petition is on it's way...

12/29 Packet 3 sent to Veronica

1/12 2007 Packet 3 received Dang Holidays..

1/22 Sending all paperwork(I-134,Bank/Employer letters etc..,)..to Veronica per DHL, 3.5lbs...$144 WOW!

Hi Nicole,

Good luck on your own immigration journey! In answer to your question, from my own experience, you don't need a SS# in order to get married in New York State. I got my SS# after I got married, and got my Green Card. All you need is other government-issued identification (even if it is foreign. For example, a passport, driver's license, birth certificate, etc.), in order to get married here in New York State.

Call your county or regional office. On the webpage for my home county they say they require a SSN, but when I called and explained that we had a visa from the feds for the purpose of getting married, they said that if the fiancé isn't an American citizen, the K-1 suffices. Worth a phone call.

Same thing was bothering me about they all said they required a SSN. I did finally call and she said that basically a photo id would work since he'd be foreign, just call back closer to time to make sure things haven't changed. So, in Arkansas you don't need one. Just in case someone else wanted to know the same question!
