I miss the heat in the Philippines. I'm done with winter lol. We just had a blizzard here in Chicago and got 19 inches of snow! Our car couldn't go anywhere since it was stuck in deep snow. So the other day we just wanted to get out of the house and just walked to iHop (which is only a few blocks away) but jeez, the cold is a killer. Bites you in the butt!

I know that feeling. :) I'm from Sweden, which is also cold and snowy, and I can't wait to move to hot Texas. I wish I could tell you that you'll get used to those kind of winters but either you love the snow and cold or you hate it. Good thing is, if you don't like the cold, there are a dozen nice warm states to choose from. :)

I lived in Chicago for three years and of course those three years the winters were the worse that anyone can remember. It was around xmas time and my girlfriend at the time was from Milwaukee, Wis. and we were driving there the morning of to spend time with her family for the holiday. The prediction was for a wind chill of minus 85 (-85F). With those temperatures I knew our car would not start in the morning. So I took it to the corner gas station, filled the tank to full and returned back to the apartment and proceeded to lock the doors while the car was still idling. I went up to our apartment and slept through the night with my car still running outside with it locked and the heat turned on. When we awoke in the morning and finished getting ready, we loaded the car up with gifts and pulled out of the parking lot headed to Wis. We saw many people trying to start their cars or cars on the side of the road and in the middle of the road that were abandon the night before. It was after that xmas that she and I broke up and I decided there were warmer places in the world to live and hence I moved to California.

I live in northern Vermont. I am trying to prepare my Filipina fiancee who will arrive here on Valentines Day that negative 35 wind chill and 3 feet of snow is not as bad as it sounds, hehe.

I hate winter, cold and very little daylight in USA.

I'm in Dallas Texas, Not as cold as some of the USA. The first few months have to suck if your from Philippines and trying to adjust to USA, and coming in wintertime would be the worst time. My girl got her late November and I have been trying to keep her busy while I work, Teaching her to drive, letting her study for her nurse exam, etc. But I am sure she gets lonely and homesick.

She meet a couple other pinays at St. Lukes/Embassy and one of the girl arrived in November and is staying in New York with her husband parents. All she does is sit in room all day while her husband is working, and feels strange in a household full of strangers.

Thankfully winter is about over here, and March should bring good weather, I hope soon to have a EAD/AP so my wife can get a Driver Licenses in Texas and she can pursue her career.

Hey! Yeah I do. My husband and I had to make sure we bought one for me before fall even arrived. I also have snow boots and gloves. Plus I learned the art of layering my clothes lol.

It is my wife's first winter in NE Ohio and she loves it (from Iloilo). She has made 3 snowmen already.....hehehe

I can't handle it outside. I always feel I would get an asthma attack!

In the Philippines, I also worry about flooding. One time I got stuck in traffic for 5 hours because of flooding. That's one of the things I don't miss about my country :P

Hi Vol, I totally understand how she feels. When I first got here I dealt with a lot of homesickness, and I still feel that way sometimes. I miss my friends and I miss working. And I miss driving as well. I got here and drove while I can, but when 3 months was up, I can no longer use my Philippines driver's license.

So looking forward for this winter to be over. Yeesh. At first I was like "Oh snow is so nice", now I say "Ugh, snow" lol

I'm from Minnesota originally, - 35 wind chill is on the warm side for sure... when you get -125 is when things get frosty. ;)

Yikes! Stay toasty! :)

I live in northern Vermont. I am trying to prepare my Filipina fiancee who will arrive here on Valentines Day that negative 35 wind chill and 3 feet of snow is not as bad as it sounds, hehe.

hey that's great. heavy chicago coats are only sold in chicago - I want to get up there and purchase 10 to 20 each season, but get too busy to make the trip.

as to asthma attack, wrap your heavy scarf across your face, similar to a surgical mask.

I did that. My face gets really really cold, so I wrap half of my face with my scarf. My nose bleeds as well because the air is so dry. Last Monday, my husband and I got so sick in staying home but we can't get out of the house because our car was stuck. So we decided to just walk to the nearest iHop haha. We were walking on the road because the sidewalk was deep in snow. One thing I'll never do again lol.

My wife's first winter too. Before coming to New York, she never experienced lower than 32 F. This winter she has seen as low as 12 F. And this weekend they are promising even colder. But she is doing fine. Uses moisturizing cream for the dry skin. Wears the warm clothes I bought for her that she insisted she did not need until she saw how cold it gets here. In other words so far so good.
