I have a friend who brought his wife to america (like I did with mine). We are both sending boxes back to the Philippines to family. However his wife is buying some things from stores and some of it shes having friends there sell. I told them I think thats illegal. But the husband says its not illegal. I want to show him a law that says it is but I actually can't find anything that says its illegal. Does anyone know if it is? What trouble will the face if caught? I'm really sad for them because you don't want to mess up everything by doing such things. Any ideas?

Of course it is illegal

But this is the Philippines where having a law written and having a law enforced is the key

By Law you are only allowed to send on Balikbayan Box home every 6 months and it is for Personal Use only.

But has anyone ever been denied shipping more? None that I have ever seen

Do you know enough to say that for sure? Many businesses of course sell overseas, so generally speaking it's not illegal. What they are doing in particular may be, if they are avoiding duties and taxes in the Philippines.

Good luck!

Yes I do know for sure, I have sent countless boxes back to Philippines.

This post is not about business to business, this is about Balikbayan boxes.

Here are the official rules from Customs Department

Are you sure about that 'one every six months' rule? We sent 12 a few months back, all picked up and delivered without a word.

There are always exceptions to the rule... ;)

I know a guy that just moved TO the Phils, he shipped over 30 balikbayan boxes... all arrived.
