Good afternoon!

I am a naturalized US citizen and I petitioned for my parents, and this was approved with a date of November 21 2014. I have tried calling the NVC (permanently busy tone!) and emailed them, to no avail.

Does anyone know how long it's typically taking from petition to... whatever the next step is? My parents are in the UK.

Any advice gratefully received!

Be patient I think maybe the best advice at this point in time when dealing with the NVC. My stepdaughter's NAO2 was in September with being able to take the first step with NVC in October. All fees, forms and documents were done months ago. Anytime you do anything with them they send a 60 day letter saying it will take them that long to review. Being prompt and accurate when completing the forms and paying the fees will help, however, the best I can tell it is going to take us 6 months to get through the process. They sent a letter over 2 months ago to give them another email for her, when the one submitted on the forms was correct. But, I resent anyway the day I got the letter via the email they told me to use. Over 60 days later they sent me a note telling me they got the email, but would take another 60 days to review.

The process total time say a year.

Sounds like you are at the sitting in a pile waiting stage now.

I think NVC works based on priority dates not sure but based on what i have read so far and also by calling them.

It could take up to 8 weeks for NVC to assign a case number so sit back and relax. For now, prepare the AOS and IV packages. ;)

After receipt of approved petition NVC takes 6 to 8 weeks to assign case number. They will inform you case number and invoice ID and also guide what to do next ie filling DS 261 and payment of fees. NVC takes its time and you cannot do any thing. However if you want to speed up the process you need to keep your documents ie affidavit of support and other supporting documents ready so that you can send those without wasting time once you pay the fees after getting case number and invoice ID from NVC. Once you send the documents to NVC they again take 60 days to review these. If the documents are complete in all respect, your case will be completed by NVC and interview will be scheduled, and if some thing found missing in the documents you will receive checklist and the case will take more time..

Thank you for all the replies! Yesterday I received emails with the letters from the NVC, so today I have filled in the DS-261 appointing myself as agent for my parents. Onward!! :)
