I'm using my husband's name because I am now his wife and it is a personal choice. However, since I'm the only girl in my family, I decided to use my maiden name as my middle name to honor my parents. :D

I use my husband last name because

0. it make me feels that we are family (including our dog  )

1. It's easier than my Thai last name eventhough i still have to spell my new last name everytime - it's just sounds more - american i guess.. and shorter.

2. It feels good to be the 4th member of this "last name" (my husband last name is a combination of his parents.. so only he and his sisters have it.. tried google and nothing else came up)

3. It also feels (weird) good to be the 1st generation of this new "last name"

4. when combine it with my old (cut in half) last name as my middle name and it sounds very good to me

5.. hmm.. and i feel that it's romantic :luv:

ohhh.. and I like to be Mrs. too..feels so romantic :luv:

ofcourse.. it's pretty hard to change my last name (my Thai last name has a very good meaning, especially when it combine with the meaning of my name) and i wasnt sure that i want to change it at first..but when i have to decide to use my name for AOS it came naturally that i'd use his last name.

K-1 = 4 months

AOS = 5 months

I-751 = almost one year

Sign of attachment and wanting to share something with my husband, I think. My feeling (being a Brit, where we change our names) is that unless you have a professional or cultural reason to keep your maiden name you should change it, but that's my feeling only.

I read an article on this very issue recently, which I don't agree with completely, but it had an interesting take and it made me think.

http://www.andtheylivedhappilyeverafter.com/9.htm

I took a look at that link.. that's just one person's opinion. Had there been any sort of ciatation that their beliefs were based on any kind of evidence, it'd have more credibility. Not changing your name does not mean that you aren't sexually attracted or committed to the marriage. It's just a choice.

I changed my name for my first marriage, then back to my maiden name after the divorce and now my new pretty married name... as a result, I have 3 different log in ID's for diffferent systems at work. I did it because it's traditional. That and it's a pain in the butt to keep spelling out Jellinek. ;)

sign me,

Frau Kraus

(For ever, not doing the name change thing again, that's for sure!)

Very well put JP....that's how I feel about Joel. To take his name is a personal choice, one that I absolutely cannot wait to do! Joel completes me...plain and simple. :luv:

Damn, so many posts on something so dependent on one's cultural upbringing. Some do, some don't change names upon marriage. What's the big deal with it?

Thank you. I don't think I can hear another, "Because I love him...blah, blah, blah...."

What's love got to do with it!?!

Precisely....I'm sorry you are so tired of hearing so many of us proclaim love for our SO's. And at the risk of incurring your wrath...it IS because I love him :D

I took my husband's name because I am an old-fashioned gal in a lot of ways and it was just something I wanted to do. (L)

Besides I love my new name, it goes well with my first name - now tell me, if you had a choice of Sharon Starr or Sharon Edwards hahaha which would you have picked? :D

And I wouldn't have been able to sign my name in cutesy ways like this if I hadn't taken my hubby's name...

Sharon :star:
