Hey guys!! Its been a LONG time since I've been on here and a quick update: hubby made it home in August and he's currently working out of our home state, and there are currently no plans in moving back, so I will soon be leaving my hometown and family to join him up there.

Now my question is since my husband is on a CR1 visa (2yrs) do we have to file taxes together or can we file them separtely? I have always been told that we should file together since he is on a CR1. Which would mean either I make the trip up there or he makes a trip down here and with the weather being crazy it'll be tough.

Hope everyone has a great week and any help or insight would greatly help.

Many blessing guys!

If you are married, you have to file taxes as married. However, you can file as married filing jointly or married filing separately, whichever means paying the least.

There is no requirement to file as married filing separately if you are currently living in different houses for work reasons.

There is no requirement to file as married filing jointly for immigration purposes.
