Hello everyone,

Thank you again for all your help on this site, I cannot imagine how people apply and get approved without it.

I was hoping to quickly ask, but does anyone know what documentation I or my co-sponsor will need to present with the affidavit of support?

My income is well above the threshold listed for New York (where we will be moving), but I have been working in Tokyo the past couple years and have been advised that my income here will not count toward what is needed to prove we will not be a public charge.

I have many relatives who more than fulfill the asset/income requirements, and as much as I hate asking for someone's help, I think that I will have no choice.

What should I ask them to prepare to substantiate what they write in their affidavit?

Also, is there anything I can do with my accounts in the US to at least demonstrate savings and my income here to show that I can more than support my (future) wife?

Our interview was scheduled for less than one month from today so whatever I do I need to do it quickly.

Thanks as always!

You are correct that your income won;t count, unless you are transfering to a US office of the same firm when you move back.

The co-sponsor will need the same things you would need if you could sponsor: 3 years tax filings, proof of income (pay stubs, letter from employer), and proof they are a US citizen or greencard holder living in the USA. BTW, even if having a co-sponsor, they will ask you to show you filed taxes while living abroad, so if you have not, backfile quickly.

Yes, you can show your US assets (bank accounts, 401k, rental property income etc). In fact, some people are able to sponsor solely on assets; you'd need three times as much as the income for your household size (so roughly $60'000 for two people, you and the fiance, if there are no kids).
